This is a great reminder. Getting in my goal of 27g of Fiber a day can be tricky. I am always looking for new ways / recipes to get my fiber in from whole sources.

And while you’re at it add a few spoonfuls of ground flax seed to your morning Protein Shake or smoothie. They are a superfood and a great addition.

OMG... that man can eat. I loved the video. It really shows the variety of delicious foods that can be enjoyed on a vegan/WFPB diet!!!

Garlic!!!!????? Amazing info!!!!!!!

Eating the equivalent of 1 lb of strawberries a day for 6 months was found to reverse esophageal cancer in 80% of those studied. Considering that esophageal cancer has only a 13% survival rate, we may want to start thinking of actual food as an alternative. What about liver cancer? With “high peach concentrations, cancer cell proliferation drops about 10%, but bananas and grapefruits work about 4 times better, dropping cancer growth rates by about 40%. Red grapes, strawberries and apples do even better, cutting cancer cell growth up to half at only half the dose, but these two fruits are the winners, causing a dramatic drop in cancer proliferation at just tiny doses, lemons and cranberries.” What about vegetables? Dr. Greger found that there is “one vegetable that completely 100% stopped cancer growth in seven out of the eight tumor lines. One of the most important findings of the year.” So which one is it? Garlic. Let me state that again, clinical research showed garlic 100% stopped cancer growth in seven out of the eight tumor lines. Shouldn’t your doctor be mentioning this? All the fruits and vegetables studied discriminately went after cancer cells leaving healthy cells to do their work. Maybe- just maybe, if we start eating better we won’t be getting cancer in the first place

Thank you for noticing this. (Kinda the reason I posted the video). He eats, oh.. I don't know.. 20 times the amount that we bariatric folk can. Of course he can meet his nutritional needs! (Should still take a B-12 supplement though).

Ok, cool info. I just for grins ran this through MFP:

1lb strawberries (USDA): 145cals; 3g protein; 1g fat; 35g carbs; 9g fiber; 22g sugars

Not bad and totally doable to split it up so that you don't exceed 4g/sugar per serving. Do you know @Newme17 what they spoke about for other serving sizes for the other fruits and veggies?

Unfortunately no, I just took a little excerpt from an article. But I’m sure I can find something on nutritionfacts.org perhaps. I’m still amazed on the garlic info. 😁

Yeah the garlic is very high on the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) scale and onions are right behind it, but the serving sizes are much smaller. We use garlic in everything lol. Broccoli sprouts/leaves are also obscenely high! Here is the ORAC scale. It starts on page 10.

It's so weird but looking at this list, about 90% of the fruits veggies we eat have an ORAC number of about 35-36! LOL! *patting self on back*

Also, yesterday you would be so proud of me. I had 1 1/2lbs of veggies lol (probably at least 80% from dark leafy sources)

That ORAC scale is interesting. So hard to compare things though, since everything is measured based on a 3.5oz "serving". Works for potatoes, but not garlic! Lol. There is probably one running around that has converted the quantities to normal using amounts. I don't know, if you cook whole garlic cloves, they might be mild enough to eat 3.5 oz...

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
