1st day was painful I was nauseated and had bad gas pains. I went home next day which was a big relief since there was constant interruptions in the hospital and I couldn't really rest. I immediately stopped the oxycodone and just took chewable tylenol. After about 3 days I didn't need any more tylenol. I am 1 week post opp today. I walked 2 miles and getting in all my fluids. The first few days will be difficult to drink and your stomach will be tender. Move and walk as much as you can. My suggestions is it will be rocky the first few days, but will get better. I'm going back to work Monday after taking 1 week off.

Thank you I expect some pain but some stories I hear scare the crap out of me. I'm glad your doing well and already going back to work. Is all the medicine they give you pain Meds all chewable. Doesn't it taste gross?

I was sleeved 7/12 immediately after surgery I kept pushing pain pump and had to take nausea medicine. Next day I wasn't pushing the pain pump much at all. Incisions hurt when you move around. Once I got home I only took narcotic pain meds at bed time for 2-3 days. Honestly I've had surgeries that were more difficult than this pain wise. You can do this.

If I were you I would stop reading horror stories, that is not the research you need to do . .

I went to hosp 7.30am, i was seen by the anestesiologist, given anti sickness meds and another anti clotting injection i waited my turn till 3pm went down they werechatting to me next min i was asleep i woke up a sking when its going to go ahead it was done. i was dry heaving or two days pain was bad but two days later i was fine totaly worth it why worry about pain , the pain of obesity was much more problamatic for me . 4th july was my surgery i was a nervous reck i cried and cried thinking i was going to die in surgery lol i went to the hosp alone and did it all alone as my mum was home with my kids. it really isnt so bad :) my advice is to breath and follow pre op diet if you have one you will be fine :)

I thought the pain was very manageable. The worst part for me was the gas pains but once those were gone I was fine. I had a c-section with my son and that pain was way worse!

Surgery was not too bad for me. I was so scared. Woke up a little nauseous and got meds for it, worked great. First hours after surgery were the worst of it for me.
I had no gas. I took very little pain medicine. Walked a little hunched over for a week because it felt like I'd done tons of ab crunches.
It was way less traumatic than I had built it up to be.
Good luck!!

I was very nervous before surgery. I kept making the bad jokes in some nervous/misguided attempt to make it seem like I was OK.

Not sure what they gave me, but I don't remember leaving the pre-op area. Woke up in my hospital room and was walking the halls within 15 minutes. I walked around the hospital floor a lot. The I.V. Dilaudid was amazing, 10/10 would have again.

The incisions were definitely painful, but just take it easy. For me, the worst part of the entire process was drinking the barium liquid for the leak test. Good grief. However, the most horrific pain came after going home, when I was getting out of the car. I twisted my waist to exit the car, as one does, and WOAH NELLY! That was smarts.

Even so, the pain and troubles of this surgery are such a distant memory now that I wouldn't hesitate to repeat the process.

Surgery went well IV pain meds were great. I walked the hall 15 x while I was there. Sx at 0700 home by 4p the next day. That's when the pain started. I couldn't drink. I had this strange painful sensation of air inside me ( shoulders back etc). This was from the laproscope and a hyatia hernia repair. The pain of changing positions was unbearable. Day 4 post op today =75% improvement! I already drank 3 Oz and it's only 10am. I'm hoping to return to class on Monday.

Some meds are liquid for or need to be sprinkled in food or liquid. I bought the children's tylenol. I do chewable vitamins & liquid calcium citrate.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
