Surgery yesterday, and my swallow test went perfectly this morning. My doctor says "you're maybe even a little ahead" (I've been doing laps around the nurses station).

And who knew that chicken broth would taste this good?? And who knew that I'd be in a place where I hadn't eaten in 30 hours, and a few spoonfuls of broth were good to go? Who is this person? Just...WOW. I was really worried about eating so little food with that driving, desperate hunger. I get it now, though. Bye bye, Hungry Monster!

It's a walk in the park, hey?

I felt a tremendous sense of relief and I think that was the best thing, the anxiety beforehand creeps up on you. Good luck, hope you're feeling as good as me!

Yessss! Congratulations!

I was sleeved yesterday and I'm also feeling like I'm in great shape. Up and walking around 2 hrs after waking up in recovery. Sent home 2 hrs later (no overnight stay unfortunately).

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a swallow test? Ive heard it referenced here before, but don't know if I did it or not. The nurses did make sure i was sipping on Water and veggie broth without any issues. Was that a swallow test?

No, that wasn't. Basically you go to X-ray and they take baseline films, then you swallow contrast and they take more films. It's so they can see if your new pouch is leaking into your abdominal cavity. Q-bic (my pouch's new name, so called because it looked square in all the films) is fine and sealed and healthy!

lol @ q-bic! Love it!

Hmm, I definitely didn't have that done. When my anesthesiologist was describing the surgery to me beforehand, she did say the dr. would do a leak test at the end to make sure everything was ok. Is a swallow test pretty common? Now Im worried I didn't do one.

And just realized Im on the bypass forum, not the sleeve forum, lol (it's hard to tell when you're using the mobile app). So maybe it's a bypass specific thing. I'll have to ask the doc!

Interesting. I have no idea! I'm sure you could call your surgeon and ask though?

The leak test, with blue dye, is also conducted in surgery where they can immediately resolve any leaks (apparently I had one!).

Interesting indeed! Mine was a whole day later. Ugh, drinking contrast...

Thanks for the clarity, friends! I'll ask the doc when I see him Wednesday. They might have told me at the hospital, I dont remember much! Lol, these meds are strong!

A swallow test is done by a doctor in the xray room. You swallow sips of barium contrast nd they watch it go down on the screen to see if you may have a leak.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
