Hi Y'all,

Ok so my doc says that w/ the band and the right restriction you should be loosing 2-4 lbs a week. I'm 8 1/2 months post op and have lost 70lbs but, i'm not loosing any where near that amount of weight a week. I don't think I need another fill.....I don't eat much and when I do i'm in big trouble...slimming, major hicups etc. My question to y'all is does that amount of weight loss seem a bit extreme and am I the only one who has experienced a slow down in weight loss over time? The first 40lbs or so just fell off but, now I gotta work at it a little harder then I did in the beginning. Just curious to see what y'all thoughts were. I always like, and listen to the advice of fellow bandsters.

1/24/07......252 lbs pant size 20/22

10/11/07.....182 lbs pant size 10

One thing to remember is that everyone is different and when the Dr gives you that number it is an average! Not everyone is like that!

I did loose easier when I was bigger, but there was a difference in our metabolism when we are larger. Exercise has been key for me in getting over that "hump" of not loosing.

I would disagree with your doctor, or at least those numbers. That's a long term average, not an average you should expect to sustain. Most people will lose more up front because their percentage of excess weight is higher.

My first 100 or so pounds were pretty much handed to me. I've had to claw & fight for the other 65, and think the rest of the battle will be -- not uphill - but a straight vertical climb. :Banane30:

I agree with wheet, that is exactly how I am.

I lose in weird intervals. 1 month 0lbs. 1 month 15lbs.

Overall, I've AVERAGED 2lbs a week, but I have only lost 2lbs a week once that I remember.

2-4?!?! my doc says half that 1-2 lbs. a week is healthy - I'm in the same boat - first 75 with no fill just seemed to vanish these last 10 with a fill have been a chore - also hard to remember that I didn't get this way overnight and that it's going to be slow sometimes - most important thing is I feel tons better and it's easier to chase after the nephews

Dieting should result in 2 pounds a week weight loss. That's what the medical community says a person can safely loose.

The band is supposed to help us do that. I'm lucky if I lose .5 pounds a week... and I'm happy with that.

I havent lost that fast. I did at first, then it slowed down. But I've still lost it.

I believe your body will do what it will do and you may as well accept that and jump on for the ride.

Mine is more prone to losing nothing for six weeks and then losing 6lb overnight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
