Hi. I have a BMI 37.9. Does anyone know if everyone has to do the pre liquid diet? And I've read that it's possible of loosing hair. I already have very fine hair. Has anybody experienced this?

Hi Debzy! I'm 38 BMI and my Dr. required 7 days of liquid diet. He requires 2 wks for BMI 50 or above.

I'm still pre-op so dont have any personal experiences to share regarding Hair loss, but have read that it's definitely something you can expect. Check out the post-surgery board as there are quite a few threads about it there.

Of course talk to your doctor but what I've read is that Hair loss may happen post surgery. Because your new tummy with be very tender you have to treat it like you would an infant. My doctors say post surgery will be 10 days of liquid, 10 days of pureed, 10 days of soft food then slowly adding in solids. Hope that helps.

I am 7 months post op and I had very thick hair to start with and my hair has thinned alot. It is just now starting to grow back. It also has to do with lack of Protein. Keep good track of your protein in take and try a prenatal Vitamin for hair and nails... Good luck :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
