Do you tell people you're banded?

Recommended Posts

I've only told my family and didn't tell them till the night before surgery, only because it was bothering me.Now i no why it took me so long to talk to them. They didn't understand then and why I would be doing this, and I still feel they still don't understand. But I did it for me!!!!!It took me doing this to get them on a diet and not in away that you would think. (these are the kind of people I'm dealing with, I love them but!!!) The very next day after I told them they joined W.W.. And now its like I lost this much and didn't have surgery..But hey what can I say there family no wonder I dint wanna go around and tell everyone.Sorry about this I must of wanted to vent.

Sometimes I feel guilty when people tell me I am half the size I used to be. But I also get really sick of hearing people say WLS is taking the easy way out. There was nothing easy about this.

My closest friends, my kids, and my bf know. Those are the only people who I feel have any business knowing.

I'm not planning on telling very many people. My daughter knows cause we want to be banded together, well not banded together but at the same time. My BFF knows and is very supportive. My parents and Brothers and Sisters won't be very supportive as i have a younger sister who had R & Y and has had a multitude of problems and subsequent surgies. I'm hoping i don't have to tell people at work, waiting on that one.

i was banded the same day as my husband - so he knew:tongue:. but i did not tell my parents & brothers till after 4months post op. they all thought that it was great i took hold of my weight and health - in fact my oldest brother got banded because of it. but that's as far as who knows to this day, my husbands family & our friends - just know we took control of our diet & are exercising like crazy....which is the truth.

i have no doubt my friends would have no issue with WLS - however my husband is EXTREMELY private, and it's his wish to keep this 'private'....so i come here more often to chat, where i can't within other areas of my life.

i like the fact i / we didn't have "watchful" eyes during our process & next wk my parents get to see me for the first time since surgery - so i'm excited.

Hey, Luluc, my husband and I are planning on being banded on the same day, too. Now that you've been through it, would you do it differently? Any advice? thanks

hi peg -

well i would have preferred ins to have paid for us both - but since that wasn't the case , we had to pay 30k out of our savings for the surgeries - but WELL worth the price for health & a new lease on life.

advise- get your pain meds filled in advanced & have the checklist for post op planned in advance & in place.

i had to the morning after, go drive to get our pain meds - not pretty.....hubby was SO adament NO ONE know what we did he hired his limo service that he uses for business travel take us there and back....my surgeon to this day says we're his only patients to take a limo for lapband..LOL:tongue:

pain meds / ice pops / good pillows / and some movies or Tivo lined up for a few days should do you both good.....please let me know how it all works out for you...

lulu

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
