I'm 2 days out. I'm sipping Water and Protein shakes. I just had a few spoonfuls of chicken broth. I'm still tired, and feeling a little weak.. but overall i'm doing ok.

My question is: Has anyone else had a rash, almost like a faint sunburn? My temp seems to be right around 99.. Is this normal? Or should I be concerned about the rash.. I've had it since I came home 2 days ago.

Thanks!

Lori:confused:

The first week after surgery I had a prickley heat rash and looked very flushed. Apparently fat burning and surgery can do it to you. Mine was only on my face and arms as well.

I had surgery yesterday and the recovery room nurse commented on my flushed face, asking if I was having a hot flash. All day today I've been flushed in my face, neck, and upper chest area. I'm thinking it might be from the blood thinner they gave me preop which was suppose to last 72 hours. If I still have this tomorrow, I'm going to call the doctor. No fever, just a little hot on my checks.

Lori:

I know you don't know how you'll be feeling in two more days, but based on how you're feeling now, do you think you'd be able to go to work in two days? I'm planning on having my surgery on a Thursday and returning to my job as a college teacher on Monday. I'd be teaching three classes, each with more than two hours in between. What do you think? Thanks!

Hey Lori, we were banded on the same day. I wondered how you were doing! Sorry to hear about the rash, hopefully it's going away. Did you call the doc?

Well it's Friday, and i'm feeling more like myself. The rash disappeared, but i'm still looking a little flushed. I called the doctor and he said it was normal, but if i thought it was getting worse, itchy or spreading to my full body then i should come in.

My surgery was on Tuesday at 4:00. I wasn't released from the hospital until 10:00 pm.. and since i live 2 hours from the hospital it was midnight before i returned home. That was a long, long ride. Wednesday, I slept.. sipped.. slept...slept some more. Thursday i was feeling tired, but made myself get up and get moving.. My back and head hurt but I assume that was from not being able to get comfortable when i was sleeping. I did drink more Water, protien and managed a little chicken broth.

Today, i feel even better..Still sore, but doing things around the house.. between the sipping and walking. So, each day is getting better. I've added sugar free Jello to the menu. A few more days and i'll be able to add some creamed Soup and yogurt.

I'm not scheduled to return to work until next Thursday, so i'm sure i'll be running marathons by then..:cheer2:

I'm glad to see that everyone is doing ok after their banding. The ones that waiting, you'll find it challenging.. but so rewarding to know you took this step to change your life for the best.

I haven't weighed in yet... I go for my dr. appt on the 17th.. so i'll update then..

Lori - Glad to hear you are doing better - I was banded on a tuesday too and by friday i was feeling a whole lot better - i was in the hospital for 2 nites - 1st nite mandatory - and 2nd nite due to gas pains i had the afternoon i was suppose to be released - afraid to go home in that kind of pain - but it was gone by 6 p.m on the 18th and i really could have gone home- it was the first 12 hrs that were the worst for me...

Make sure you get all your Protein in as this will help you heal..

Good Luck..

It's getting easier to get the Protein Shakes in each day. I never thought I would say this, but I think I'm sick of chocolate. -lol- I did have my first PB last night.. Without thinking I took a big gulp of water.. Ouch! I can't wait to go back to the doc's and advance to blended foods.. once on those for a few days, able to keep them down for 3 days x 3 meals.. i'm good for some soft food. I'm not really hungry, I just miss chewing..-lol-

I came down with Shingles a week after my banding. First I had the nerve pain on my back with no rash. Then a week later I got a round patch on my temple and my skin was on fire. The rash left scabbed up and left after 7-10 days. I am left with a pink tell tail mark, but the nerve pain took almost 4 weeks to leave. I took meds the Doctor gave me so I am OK now. I wonder if you have Shingles too.

I make shakes w/unflavored Protein (unjury) mix with yogurt & fresh or frozen fruit and bananas - yummy... I use that Protein powder more than i do my chocolate... I never had a problem drinking Water even after surgery but i think that 1st week i did take sips -- only after my 1st fill did i have to slow down and now that's gone - I can gulp water.

Can't wait for my 2nd fill - What is your doc's diet 3 days mushies then to soft?? That's pretty good - - I had 10 days full liquids - 10 days pureed - 10 days soft and then regular.

Truely though i eat mostly soft food t 90% of the time. I have to go back to full liquids the 1st week after a fill - i find if i make home made Soup i do ok - i can't stand the canned stuff after a couple of days.

Chris - Sorry to hear about the shingles. I've heard they are very painful. That wasn't related to the surgery though, was it? And thankfully that wasn't the case with me, I think it was just a little prickly rash that developed and went away after a few days. Glad to hear you are ok now!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
