Left shoulder pain - 6 days post op

Recommended Posts

I'm having more discomfort today in my left shoulder, mostly in my upper trap. It is kind of just consistently nagging, not worsening at any specific time. I have no nausea or vomitting. I've been getting plenty of fluids in daily. I called my doctor, I'm just waiting for a return call, but with it being almost 5pm, I might have to wait until tomorrow. Anyone else have this? What is it and how do i get it to go away?

Oh I just looked at your previous posts(you're sleeved). It might just be gas. Try walking and see if you feel better. If the pain persists, call up your surgeon.

Gas tends to make it's way up that left shoulder and kinda ache. Just keep on walking, and it should dissipate over the next few days. Of course everyone gets nervous about shoulder pain (heart attack symptom and all), so if you start feeling BAD, of course, seek further treatment. Monitor for fever and any other off-color symptoms.

Congrats on getting onto the loser's bench! Good luck!

Holy Crap did i have left shoulder pain. It was the worst pain i ever felt. It lasted about 3 days post op. Sitting up straight and moving around helps. It was worse when i laid down. Putting heating pad on it helps and of course drugs....lol

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
