I have the same issue with BMW charts. I was 49 at 275 pounds. I'm now at 31 at 172. Still considered obese, but I don't see an obese person. When I talk to my doctors they just say, I've done fantastically and not to worry about BMISo I'm not,for right now anyway.

Mine is 36. But I'm also not done, I still have another 31 lbs to go before I have a normal BMI. I just think it's ridiculous that my BMI indicates that I'm obese. I don't see an obese person when I look in the mirror.

I don't see an "obese" person either, (just making that clear! Lol!).. and it won't take 30lbs to knock off a couple inches and put you in the low-risk category. (Probably once you hit "overweight" on the BMI.. which is awesome info for us that are further out and trying to sort out goals..)

Thank you so much for posting this, because it's really eye-opening!

When I saw my pcp we talked about a healthy weight for me. I am short and busty. When I wa son my 30's I got to 155 and was in a size 10- my surgeon said he thought I could get to 139. I haven't seen that since I was in my teens. My pcp said 150 is probably more reasonable given my frame. I believe that still puts me overweight- I'm 5' 2.5" tall. I have a heavy solid build naturally. I think we need to listen to our bodies- not everyone should be a size 4. Get to where you are comfortable and healthy.

Lots of typos sorry- he said 130! Not 139

This person is obese
This highlights how absurd BMI is. This picture is from last Monday. I was 183 lbs. BMI 30.5 I think it was. Obese class 1. When I look at that picture, I don't look obese, I don't feel obese. I don't consider myself obese. I started with an BMI of 42+, obese class 2.
I have another 31 lbs to loose to reach a normal BMI. It might not happen and I'm okay with that. I have lost 74.5 lbs since two weeks before surgery (surgery date 3.20.17)

Ignore the charts. Get a body dunk test.

I think you look great. More importantly how do you feel?

I have thought about my goal weight a lot these past few days and I don't really care where I end up. I feel amazing and I am enjoying the journey.

I do think that as a society we have kind of gotten to the point where a normal BMI looks skinny to us. Yesterday I had someone tell me I should be careful and not lose too much weight. They thought my face looked to skinny.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
