If you could pick a new career right now, what would it be? My alternate dream job is an archetect. But since I can't spell it, or draw for Beans...I'll stick to teaching! I wanted to be a teacher or a ballerina since I was a little girl. My fat ass determined my destiny there.

How old were you when you fell in love for the 1st time? My very first love, mutual, was when I was 17. His name was Mario, and he was a stone fox. He was 21, mom hated him...and we were together 6 months!

If you could pick your “last meal” what would it be? OOO good ? I think I'd like a huge plate of More (family dish we made for Xmas dinners, etc), Italian salad, and garlic bread. I still make it from time to time (not since the band though) for my brother!

What’s the greatest thing about the town you live in? The weather baby! Beautiful desert surrounded by mountians. I can not live anywhere it is flat...I get dizzy!

Where were you born? San Francisco, CA...during the summer of love!

Have you ever read a book (or attended a lecture, took a class, etc.) that changed your life in some way? What was it? Since I've had 14 years of college...I'd have to say yes. What was it? I don't know. I'd guess they've all changed me. I may think of one later.

What is your favorite charity? Why? American Cancer Society. Mom died in 2004 after an 8 year battle w/ Multiple Myeloma...'nuf said.

Name your 3 all-time favorite books: Another great/tough question. First thing that comes to mind is Ya Ya's. Then...Giving Tree; Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry; Stone Fox; Soooo many...I am a book collector.

What do you do when you are bored? Quadplex or hang on LBT and stalk my sistas. I read, watch TV, love naps, or like Laura, start one of many projects that I never finish.

Do you have any vices? Any that I'll post on the internet you mean? Not many any more. Recently quit smoking (loved loved loved to smoke); recently quit eating (used to love to do that too, lol). I guess, my last vice (if you can call it that) is watching All My Children (since I was 5 in 1972) and Big Brother in the summer!

Name one thing you’d like to do before you die. Wear a size 8-10 again! Travel...marry Susanne...the list goes on and on.

Is the glass half-empty or half-full? Always full, except right after school. Then I've probably thrown the damn glass against the wall and it is broken on the floor.

What is your bedtime? Usually 9ish

What is your idea of the perfect vacation? Beach or anywhere w/ Susanne. Sometimes, Sunday mornings can feel like a vacation.

Ever have a dream that you were “with” wink.gif a movie star? Who was it? OOOO yeah, I've had 2 hot hot hot sex dreams that I was with Bill Clinton (did you think I was gonna put Angelina Jolie?) These were a few years apart. And they were like really hot! And yes, he was good;)

If you knew your advice would be taken, what would you say to a high school graduate? Don't get married or have kids until your in your 30's. The 20's are a great decade...live, laugh, love...and get to know yourself. You are not gonna be the same person later...but better!

If you knew your advice would be taken, what would you say to a high school graduate?

If you're not saved already, get saved. No better advice than to make sure you know Jesus as your Savior. Once you know Him, any problem you face can be overcome.

Also, stay away from credit cards - they are wolves in sheeps' clothing. Remember and follow the Golden Rule. Think before you speak, especially when you're angry. NEVER let the sun set on your problems with your spouse. Plenty more, but I'll stop there :)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
