Twin Cities area sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm having gastric sleeve surgery in 3 days here in the Twin Cities. Looking for others in the area that would be available to exchange messages, support each other.

Although my immediate family knows, this is definitely something that I haven't felt ready to share with friends and colleagues, who almost certainly would not understand.

Hi Ahmedito,

I am also from the Twin Cities and recently completed surgery. Feel free to reach out to me. I see your surgery is in a few days! If I do not hear from you before then, best of luck!

Katie

I feel really good, thanks for asking! Gas pain is the worst and some stomach spasms when I drink, but its managable. Not hungry at all. I plan on being completely off pain meds tomorrow and I barely had anything today! I havent had any buyers remorse so far!

My surgery was at Abbott Northwestern and I had a phenomenal team, but I think we are lucky to have so many great hospitals in the metro that you will be well taken care of too :)

Glad to hear you are doing well! Yes we do have good choices here!
I had a laperscopic pr procedure several years ago (completely unrelated) and I asked the surgeon if they had figured out how to avoid the pain from the gas... no such luck.

It has been interesting to me to read about all of pre and post op protocols.

Mine seems easier on the front-end ( only 10 days pre-op liquid protien - t hen 1 day clear liquids).

But after, 7 days only Clear Liquids, then two weeks protien, then pureed foods... so a long wait until food can be reintroduced.

Is yours similar?

I did a 14 full liquid diet, including proteim creamed Soups and pudding. Day before surgery was clear only.

First week post op I am on clear liquid + Protein Shakes as tolerated after day 3
2nd week full liquid
3rd week pureed foods
4th week soft foods
5th week normal diet

Luckily I havent really wanted much so it has been easy so far, but Im getting super sick of broth as my only savory option. I did find some specialty bone broths at the kowalskis deli today in cool flavors like beef pho and chicken curry that Im really excited about haha. Once I get to the purreed stage, I think I will have lots of options... it does seem like forever though!

I am going to keep Kowalski's in mind. Thanks!
I am hopeful that being less hungry post-op will make the deprivation easier!

How has the process been for you the past 6 months?

My surgery got bumped up a day... so it will happen on Thursday (8/10).

I am! The team where I did my surgery has been VERY attentive. The only problem was gas pressure in my chest so I've been walking and doing the necessary breathing exercises. I'll be discharged today and I feel pretty good!

Good for you!
I had laparoscopic surgery for a different issue once before... I remember pain from the gas. Not looking forward that.

Glad to hear that overall you are feeling good!

Wishing for your success to continue!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
