Did you have GP to help treat your gastroparesis?

Recommended Posts

RNY scheduled for 8/9. Dr hoping it will reduce my pain, nausea, and improve motility. Wondering if anyone else out there had gastroparesis before their surgery and what their experience was like.

Thanks! How has your gastroparesis been since the surgery? I'm really hoping for a big reduction in pain and nausea, as well as better motility.

It has been much better. My nausea and pain are gone. Unless I eat to much or to fast. I also have IBS and this has helped with that also.

It might be too early but have you noticed any relief from the GP symptoms?

I'm not quite to a full diet yet so I'll know better on my trigger foods in September perhaps. I have noticed a difference in bowel movements though! I was deathly afraid to be off of one of my medications because life was awful without it. I would be going to the bathroom sometimes up to 17 times a day. Even without that medication now, my BM's are more stabilized for the most part. I still have random bouts but I think that's my intestines still getting used to everything.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
