Vomiting after eating meat

Recommended Posts

I am 7 weeks post op and am having difficulty with vomiting after eating meat or fish. I will chew it for at least 60 seconds and even after a bite or two I will throw up everything and it tends to continue for a few hours. I grill my meat or broil it with no oils and I do not understand why I can't keep it down. I can't even do Protein Shakes as they make me sick so i'm living off of yogurt and i have oatmeal in the morning. My doctor put me on meds but it's making it worse. I'm not losing a ton of weight. I have to add that my surgery was a revision to 2 previous nissen fundoplications so I also had work on my esophagus . Can anyone recommend anything else I can eat to get my Protein? Also, any suggestions on incorporating fish or chicken without getting sick.

To continue vomiting for hours after consuming something isn't something to take lightly. Take a couple more weeks off of eating those foods, then try again (but next time, try pureeing them into a liquid consistency).

Grilling and broiling meat with no oil.. nope nope. It has to be soft and lubricated. Gravy and Mayonnaise are your friends for the next couple months with meat. Think about the meat you feed a baby.. your tummy needs it like that. And if you don't know... go to the baby food aisle and buy a jar. You don't need to eat it, but it will show what your tummy wants.

Revisional surgeries don't give the bang of original procedures. It may take more work and a longer time, but you'll get there even so.

I can't do Protein Shakes either.. but cottage cheese and yogurt are nice and smooth, eggs might work for you, refried Beans, soft cheese (like fresh mozzarella). Tofu if it's soft (I don't know anything about it, really ;) ). You can even try a few cashews. It's still a little early for nuts, but if you eat them one at a time, and chew it to paste, it might be ok for you. Cashews are the softest nuts, without skins, so start with them. Limit nuts to 1oz a day because they are so calorically dense.

I'm a fan of baked tofu. Not the white jiggly stuff in Water. Dry and flavored in a vacuum pack. Safeway has it here. Look a bit harder and it is refrigerated

Some softer Protein bars... chewed well .. best of luck. Protein is so important. And keeping food down is way important!!

Fairlife extra protein milk. sugar free pudding ?? Refried Beans mushy...?Worth a try

i was going to mention this too. sounds like you are making your meat tough and dry. that will not pass thru the pouch easily.

so eat moist dark meat chicken, maybe with some soft skin. don't have dry, nasty skinless breasts. dark meat rotisserie chicken should work.

It can be hard to make the transition to solid foods especially meats like steak and chicken. I found that softer foods such as chili and Soups went down much easier than harder foods like meat. I have included a few recipes in the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

I could not eat beef for about 9 months- too heavy- I eat chicken fish yogurt cottage cheese and Protein Shakes made with kale Protein power crush flax seed with some frozen fruit. I'm 16 months out lost 90 pounds . I do need to lose 15 more so I must increase my walking. and change up foods a bit- hard boil eggs are also a good fix. Protein is so important. I also had Hair loss and that has cycled through and getting better. We made this decision for life and I'm so much better off mentally and physically because of this surgery saved my life. I was 62 yo when I had surgery- out of work 3 weeks. I remain grateful

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
