11 Days post op RNY - Amazed by weight loss

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share my story so far. Tuesday I had the RNY bypass procedure that morning and stayed overnight. And left the next evening.

I progressed quickly through the menu items from pudding to popsicles then to mashed potatoes then to chicken nuggets from chick til a without any problems so far.

Now 10 days in and I'm down 23lbs it seems absolutely crazy to lose that much that fast. Others it appeared never lost more than 20lbs in a month.

The doctor doesn't seem concerned, but what do you think?

At 10 days post-op your body is in a major heal mode. You should not be eating chicken nuggets at your stage. For RNY gastric bypass patients the Weight Loss phase is very short. You want to maximize your weight loss during this phase because soon you will slide into the Maintenance phase. So it is very very important to follow the program guidelines.

Right after surgery, some individuals will lose weight quickly and effortlessly. But as time goes on, your weight loss will dramatically slow down. So make the most of it and follow the doctor's orders.

I think it's a huge problem that you are eating fast food 10 days after bariatric surgery. you are setting yourself up for massive failure.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
