Spicy Foods Okay?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if eating spicy foods is ok with band? I add a lot of black and cayenne pepper to my foods and sometimes cook veggies with a green pepper in it. I also add a lot of garlic and Mrs. Dash. It doesn't have the same affect as ibuprofen, does it? Also of course with eating spicy foods, I do sweat a lot after eating but I heard this helps in speeding up your matabolism (Sp). Actually even if I don't add spices I sweat after eating. Does anyone else have that problem too?

I love spicy food but am afraid to eat it. I'm afraid that I'll want to drink with it..

Has that been a problem with anyone?

I have really stuck to the rule to not eat and drink. After eating spicy foods, the only thing I do is sweat. After about 30 minutes, I'll then drink.

Only one word of caution and it comes from personal experience. If you do barf after eating spicy foods it burns at least triple coming up vs. when it was going down. So chew well and don't overeat! :Banane10:

One thing I've learned on this site is everyone's stomach is different. I LOVE hot wings but I am afraid of trying them. I have started out slowly reintroducing spicy to my diet and have had no problems. But, I am still afraid of eating spicy foods. Things like chili don't bother me, but I can't get over my fear enough to eat hot wings. I guess it is all for the best since hot wings are not that nutritious in the first place.

Just be careful of the skin on hot wings. chicken skin is evil.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
