Hello everyone! I am set to have surgery August 15th (eeep!!) and although I am incredibly excited, I am also extremely nervous like a lot of you are (were) well.

My question is about travel after surgery. I will be traveling immediately after surgery as I am a self pay patient from Canada and will be having the procedure in Mexico, however we also have a family trip booked to Disneyland almost exactly 3 months post-op as well. My question is, do you veterans think this trip is doable physically? I am fully prepared to pack my own shakes, Snacks and replacement items to eat at the park, but I am wondering if I can expect to feel physically well enough to tackle the park?

I am quite active now, averaging about 10k steps a day on my fit bit, but I have no idea what our bodies are like post-op.

Any insight would help. Thanks!!

Also, if someone recommends renting a scooter, you become my favorite. Lol.

I also went on vacation 3 months postop, and it was perfect! I was able to hike up a (LITTLE) mountain, and keep going for about 5 miles. I felt as strong as I was preop.. but that took the whole 3 months getting there. 8 weeks postop would have been a different story.

So.. barring complications... I expect you'll be fine :)

Once Caveat.. blood clots are a risk for the first 6 months postop, so please take precautions during extensive travel by car or plane. (Movement, compression stockings, etc.).

My family and I will be at Disneyland in November as well, and I'll be 5 months post op by then. I have done my research as to the food I can eat there and I will also take my own Snacks in my bag. I've done Disneyland more than I can count and I think you'll be okay. If you have to sit down for a minute, do so. Make sure you take a water bottle. Most every restaurant within the park, downtown Disney and the hotels will have options for you. Even before I had the surgery I loved Bangle BBQ in Adventure Land, you can't beat tasty chicken on a stick.

If you are going in November the weather is usually high 60's to low 70's. Not nearly as tiring as the summer months. Good luck and have a great time.

I did Disneyworld 2 months after surgery. It was not a problem at all. I carried two Quest Protein Bars in the pockets of my cargo shorts along with some Crystal Light packets each day. At lunches in the parks, I usually just nibbled on some of my wife's lunch. At dinner, I'd order a steak/shrimp/chicken meal and then brought the leftovers back to our timeshare. As far as the walking, I felt like a million bucks. It's such a relief to take so much pressure off my knees and lower back. I hear walking at Disneyworld is the happiest exercise on earth!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
