I am almost 3 weeks post-op and was just curious when actual hunger returns? I haven't felt it at all since surgery. I drink my Protein Shakes when I am suppose to even if i don't feel hungry to make sure I get the recommended amount of Protein. And I try to get in 64 oz of Water but most days its tough. Thanks in advance!

Immediately or never, lol.

It is different for everyone.

I had head hunger pretty much right away. Anyone will on a liquid diet. Physical hunger? Very very rarely. I pretty much have to go 12 to 16 hours without eating to get physically hungry and then my sleeve is so small it is very easy to ignore, too easy honestly. I can easily go 24-36 hours without eating. Which is why I track my food so my app reminds me to eat.

I have pretty much zero physical hunger. My head hunger is very low at this point. I love food and I still really enjoy my food but it doesn't rule my life.

Just meet your Protein goals. I also found the further out I got from surgery and the less fear I had about eating possibly hurting, the more I was willing to eat.

I had a gnawing sensation within the first week. At first it was acid, increased my acid reducers, and that went away. Acid hunger felt similar to real hunger, but I could tell a difference. But by a month postop, I could feel actual hunger. Now, at 4 months postop, if I go 4-5 hours without eating, I get an empty pit, but as soon as I eat, I'm good. (I can eat anything and feel satisfied, so it's real hunger, not head hunger/craving).

I had no hunger the first two weeks. I had lots of nausea post op. As the weeks went on I was still taking anti-nausea meds and noticed I was having to take them at times when it made sense I would actually be hungry, like when it's been over 4 hours since my last meal or first thing in the morning. I decided to try and eat through the nausea instead of taking medicine (which was tough because I was scared I would vomit) and it worked.

Now at 8 weeks out, when I'm hungry when I still get nauseous and have an unpleasant warm feeling in my sleeve. Overall, my hunger is extremely mild compared to what it was preop.

I'm 8 months post-op and I still don't feel hungry. Occasionally I'll realise food is required because I'm feeling a bit low in energy, but that might be as much to do with not hydrating well enough.

I get head hungry all the time - it's a constant battle for me. It's getting easier though. Everything is getting easier.

I'm at 8 months and I can't say that I really ever get "hungry" like I did pre-surgery. I certainly have head-hunger cravings but I can fight it off without any problems if I keep busy. If I sit around watching TV or something, I have a hard time wanting to nibble on something. Frozen sugar-free popsicles are my go-to snack.

I feel like my hunger returned fairly quickly-few weeks-but all I needed was a couple bites to feel satisfied.

I feel the same way! I had my sleeve done 3 days before yours! The only thing i'm feeling is the want to chew on something crunchy! I don't actually get hungry but i am back at work now, and so used to a schedule from the first week on drinking, it's become a habit, to drink. I feel like my sleeve tells me when i need to sip on Water, and my body tells me when i need to sip on broth. I'm having trouble with the mushy stuff. my tastebuds are still all messed up too. Are you feeling this way as well?

Mushy stuff hasn't bothered me much. I've only been on pureed food for 1 day as of now. The Water thing has become habit as well. I just have to make sure I stop before i eat to make sure i'm getting enough nutrition.

that's so crazy how every doctor and every program is a bit different but we all are working towards the same results. I started a blended diet the 2nd weeks out, if i was comfortable, but i wasn't ready yet - and 3rd and now 4th week incorporating yogurt, apple sauce, and Protein Shakes in. i'm going in for my month checkup to review next steps in meal planning and nutrition. keep up the great work!!

Hunger returned within days of surgery. But that's OK, at 5 months out, I still get satisfied after only a few bites of food. It's certainly better than the bottomless pit of a stomach I used to have.

My hunger returned as soon as I started eating regular food. If I don't eat every 2-3 hours, I feel actual hunger (and not head hunger). I take my acid reflux meds and drink enough Water.

Me too. It's came back right away. I feel hunger and it's fairly intense. Then I eat a small portion and it's gone.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
