I was SO SO hungry after the first two weeks that I actually called my doctors' office and asked it it was normal to want to chew the legs off of my table...lol! The nurse assured me that it was indeed just one of the things that I will have to go thru during this process. She explained to me that the hunger is most likely a result of the swelling in my stomach going away (which is a good thing) She suggested a sugar free Jello if I couldn't stand the hunger between one meal and the next. I opted not to have any and suffer through. It only lasted a few days maybe a week tops. I am a month post surgery and eating solids now and hunger really isn't an issue anymore. I have taken up a few new hobbies since my surgery and have found that if I am beginning to feel hunger creeping in and I"m not "supposed" to eat yet that I can pick up my crocheting and distract myself until it passes. It seems to work for me. :)

I am 3 weeks post op today, and I know how you feel! Protein Shakes will help curb the hunger, but I don't know if you're on full liquids yet or not. I have one for Breakfast, then eat my mushies for lunch and dinner. I have more "head hunger" then anything else right now. It's all about baby steps. You will feel much better when you can get hydrated and get some Protein in your body. Good Luck, I'm right here with you!! --Sue

I was on anything I could get through a straw for the first week, then mushies for the second week and for the thrid and fourth week I was on normal foods.

It was the thrid and fourth weeks that killed me. I was in "bandster hell" ready to resort helter skelter in order to curb my appetite. Once I had my first fill that all went away. I had that fill about 3.5 weeks after my surgery and have since had two more. Yesterday being my third. I am suspecting I'm either at my sweet spot or one fill away.

I was banded on August 28th and have lost 31 pounds.

Hang in there, after your fill you'll feel soooo much better!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
