Hormone Levels Checked?

Recommended Posts

I am 1 year out from surgery, started at 195 and now weigh 167. Not even 30 lbs lost! I follow every guideline almost meticulously (with the exception that I could drink more Water and could always exercise a bit more). But overall, I eat healthy and get 60-70 grams of Protein a day so I am puzzled. I went to my follow-up appt and told my PA that I am SEVERELY exhausted. To the point I need a nap nearly everyday. She mentioned that it could be my hormones and that we may see about getting them checked. No one has ever checked my hormones before so I wondered if this could be the problem? I'm 46 years old - I just shouldn't be this tired AND I should've lost more weight by now. Anyone else experience this? Last bloodwork only showed slightly low Iron but B12 and Vitamin D levels were normal.

Definitely sounds like something isn't right. Please let us know what you find out! Do you have sleep apnea? Or another sleep disorder? I was always exhausted and had a sleep study done. Once I got my Coapa I had way more energy.

If your thyroid is off, that could cause all kinds of problems. it should have been part of the pre op and post op blood panels, but many hormone imbalances can cause exhaustion. Best of luck. (I had terrible thyroid problems for many years - turns out it was a benign tumor -which when removed resolved the problems.)

Don't know if this will help at all, but I do believe hormones play a bigger role than we thought. I am reading the Obesity Cure and it makes so much sense to me. I am giving the 16/8 fast a try. I hope you find the answer.

What did they say about the lack of weight loss? I enjoy lost 63 lbs in 7 months and my PA and nut both said I was on the low end of the expectation and gave me advice on kicking it up again. When you say you eat healthy, how many carbs are you getting?

Not many. I don't eat bread or sugar. For the last 2 weeks I've gone gluten free, dairy free and sugar free. Still no weight loss. I'm going tomorrow to see a hormone specialist. I do have Hashimotos so my thryroid isn't 100%, but I take synthroid daily for that. I'm just very discouraged. My energy has improved in the last couple of weeks but that's all. [emoji53]

It's been a year for he and I've only lost 42lbs still have 55lbs to go and my body is slow to weight loss. I'm a diabetic and I take insulin. I have gotten real discouraged. I'm going to try this restart, where you go back to liquids for for 2 weeks and then soft foods

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
