So I have to be at the hospital tomorrow 2 hours before instead of the usual 1. What kind of prep happens before surgery?

It really depends on the hospital.

Got me changed into hospital attire. Then did urine test, check weight, etc. Got me settled in the pre-op area. Hooked me up to all the monitors and started IV. Meet with nursing staff. Start antibiotics and give blood thinners. Meet anesthesiologists - all 3 of them. Meet with surgeon. Start relaxing cocktail of drugs and oxygen mask. Then off to surgery.

All of that really did take at least 1.5 hours.

They start an IV as soon as they get you changed. Almost any time you are checked into a hospital they start an IV right away so they can administer meds to you as needed.

Like the other poster said, they run a lot of tests. They check your blood type.

They drug you so you don't freak out. By the time you are in the operating room, you are already all the way zoned out. You are awake but very mellow and chilled out. I want to say they give you xanax and some other stuff.

My arrival time was 6:30 a.m. and surgery time was 8:30 a.m.

I checked in, proceeded to the surgical suites, changed into a hospital gown and bonnet, had my vital signs taken, urine tested, and an IV line started.

The pre-op nurse completed her admission assessment on me. Then the CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist) collected a quick history on me by asking me questions. Then the operating room nurse explained what would happen to me.

Finally, the bariatric surgeon told me the surgery would take 30 minutes at the most and obtained an informed consent from me to proceed with the procedure.

I was wheeled back to the operating room, given the IV cocktail of benzodiazepines, and fell asleep perhaps 10 minutes later. I awakened in the recovery area because the surgery already happened.

Does the loopiness make you nauseas?

It definitely can! If you have a tendency towards that let your surgeon or anesthetist know and they can give you meds like phengran or zofran for nausea. Or a scopolamine patch to put on the night before

How did you feel when you woke up?

I felt fine...no pain, no nausea, no vomiting, no gas. But, my body itched like hell. I recall asking the post-anesthesia recovery nurse, "I'm itchy. Can you give me a shot of Benadryl or Atarax, please?"

She gave me a quizzical look and said, "You must be a nurse or something."

I said, "Yes, I am."

I was there at 5:30 in the morning for a 7:30 surgery. Got weighed and then an iv inserted with Fluid and antibiotic. Then came in later with the happy juice. I was alright then.

When I woke up I was very sore and felt bloated. Walk as much as you can and the gass will go away.

The cocktail as they are wheeling you in are the best part! I remember them hitting a bump and accusing them of drunk driving. Next thing I woke up in recovery. It does not make you nauseous it makes you relax. Ask them to put nausea meds in your IV. Mine said they automatically do that anyway.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
