I was told that we had to give up diet soda before the operation. I thought I would give myself until the last month to enjoy it but at four months, I was just told that I need to be off of them now. Have I messed up by not stopping it before now? Do you think I can continue drinking them for another month? My doctor says now but I'm curious as to what other instructions are out there. In the scheme of things this isn't a large issue but it is a burning one for me!

You are trusting your doctor to cut you open. Perhaps you should trust your doctors diet advice.

I haven't touched soda in a while. I gave it up years ago along with salt. If I were you, I'd just stop drinking soda. Some sodas have caffeine in them. That's not going to end well for you after surgery when you definitely can't drink it......

Diet sodas are poison and can be difficult to give up. Educate yourself on what is in diet soda. Then you can begin to change how you view it and get away from it.
Just search diet soda and aspartame dangers. And while you are researching, use a can of soda to clean your toilet. It does wonders like Ajax cleanser.
Do you really want to drink something you can clean a toilet with?????

I had the same question/issue. I am scheduled for a roux en y. Was told that anything carbonated would take up a lot of room, even something like drinking Water but with a straw could allow too much air in - taking up too much and then it would cause issues. I was told that caffeine is ok after six months, there is some evidence that it delays wound healing. Caffeine should leave your system in about a day. Maybe worth while to talk to the office. Trust but verify, eh?

Caffeine and sodas are different issues. Some docs are fine with caffeine (coffee, tea, etc) others are not. Most are not fine with soda post op.

To be successful on this journey, you need to listen to your doctor and no one else's. Every doctor is different for many different reasons. I stopped my ginger ale 6 months prior to surgery. I don't miss it. I was told to stop at my information seminar, so I did.

I agree that you need to read up on diet soda and aspartame. Aspartame is a poison and can cause numerous illnesses.

Your best bet is to listen to your doc and quit now. Withdrawal sucks, but better now, then post op when you already feel yucky. Remember this is a lifestyle change for the better. This is the time to let go of some bad habits.

Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
