I have no trouble eating yogurts, cheeses, most candies and fruits; drinking milk, sugar in coffee or tea.

But; big but, I cannot eat ice cream, frozen yogurt, fruit smoothies, cake and chocolate in bar form.

I know that some of these things are no-nos. But, in the off times that I eat them, I get very sick. I get sweaty, dizzy, have trouble concentrating and finishing sentences. I feeling nearly poisoned.

What confuses me is that it is not consistent after 14 years.

Does anyone else have similar issues?

I think, from your list, it's the sugar + fat combo that's bugging you.

Yogurt is often fat free

cheese is sugar free

candy might be fat free

fruit is fat free

milk .. depends on the type.. but if you tolerate it, then lactose isn't the issue

sugar in coffee and tea is fat free

----------------------------------------------

ice cream... sugar + fat

frozen yogurt... and smoothies... not sure.. if they are both fat free, then maybe it's the.... cold?

cake.. sugar + fat

Chocolate.. sugar + fat

Some patients experience a condition called reactive hypoglycemia. It sounds like you are experiencing periods of low blood sugar after you consume foods high in sugar content. You'd think she'd get hypoglycemia from candy too though.. (not saying it ISN'T a blood sugar problem, just that it's weird :) ).

Personally I can taste the baking soda in cakes and the like, so then I start thinking maybe there is another ingredient in the second list that you have developed a sensitivity to (my daughter is sensitive to vanilla! Can you imagine?)

I was kinda assuming you are dumping.. but maybe taking a blood sugar reading when you feel that way could answer whether it's the reactive hypoglycemia. (The other way to tell, if you don't have a monitor, is to see if you feel better after you eat something).

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
