Protein Shakes are the big one I didn't see mentioned. Sounds like you're on full liquids? You could have sf popsicles to get a little bit of different texture. Protein soups/broths were a godsend my first 2 weeks when I would get tired of the shakes and protein Water.< br />
Hang in there! I know the liquid phase isn't fun, but the results you'll see and eventually the way your body will feel will make it all worth it!

Does your surgeon provide a nutritionist? Do they have a plan that they want you to follow?

It sounds to me like you're on the right track, but every program is different.

You might try looking at Dr. Weiner's videos on You Tube. They are a bit different from my doctor's program, but I like what he has to say and might be changing my routine a bit.

Never be shy to ask for opinions on here. Sometimes I feel like these people know more than my doctor!

Milk is a full liquid. Just make sure everything is super watery for the next little bit. Everything should be able to be easily sucked through a straw for the first 14 days. (No straws.. just tells you how watery it should be).

Premier Protein ready-made shakes (Costco) have been a very helpful tool for me. chicken broth and Bone Broth were very helpful for me when trying to get a break from the consistent "sweetness" of most Protein supplements. Also Greek yogurt, but stay away from formulations that contain more grams of sugar than protein.

I had surgery 2 days after you! I just started my full liquid diet today. I had my surgery in Mexico, so don't have a nutritionist. Here are the some of the things I was approved to eat this week (please note that everyone's diet is different). I was warned that Tomato based products may be too acidic but that I could try them and see how I tolerate them.

single grain baby Cereal thinned with milk or Protein Shake

thinned cream of wheat

boiled chicken (can be seasoned) pureed with enough broth to go through through a funnel

level 1 or 2 baby food (stick with fruits cuz I hear the other stuff is gross)

I am actually allowed to have cottage cheese and don't have to blend it

Yoplait whipped yogurt

low sodium V-8

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
