sylvia2017 166 Posted July 15, 2017 Pre op weight 319Current weight 270Sleeved 6/22/17Today I weighed and I've lost 49 lbs in 23 days. At first I thought it was due to Fluid retention. But I got all the fluid off the first week. I know I'm not getting very many calories between 200-400 daily. Plus I only get between 20 to 30 grams Protein a day. But I am getting all my Water in. That's pretty much all I drink. A typical day for me is 1 egg for Breakfast a greek yogurt with protein for lunch, and a Protein Shake for dinner. And water all day. I'll eat a sf popcicle as a snack. When I eat pureed or mashed foods I fill too full or get extreme gas pain so I try to just stick to this plan. I don't feel hungry until it's to the point of feeling weak then I know I gotta eat. I'm happy with my weight loss but I'm afraid of what it could be doing to my muscles, teeth, and hair. I can start soft foods in one week but really afraid it will cause stomach problems. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using BariatricPal mobile app
Kat410 423 Posted July 15, 2017 I had a similar experience. You may want to consider just doing higher Protein intake - like Protein Shakes, Bone Broth, etc. which packs more protein than eggs or greek yogurt. I don't think the issue is that you are loosing too fast - but your protein intake does need to get upped and I would recommend you find ways to get it up. You can see my stats below, I am not sure what your BMI was - mine was 51 at the beginning of the 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I lost 16 lbs on that diet and 10 the first week after surgery and I am now averaging about 4 lbs/week and I suspect that will slow down at some point in the future. I find % of excess weight lost to be a better measurement because comparing pounds across genders, age ranges, BMIs and metabolic types to be like comparing apples to oranges if what you want to do is track your progress overall. By the way - when I have dieted before, I had been a very "fast looser", in particularly on organic high protein/fat diets with the elimination of all carbs outside of green veggies (however, I always hit some weird hunger/hormonal wall at about 50 lbs lost). This is the first time I have lost more than 50 lbs, and that was done in the timeframe in my signature below. 3 Simply_Divine, Little Green and sylvia2017 reacted to this

On weight watchers I lost 35 lbs and one time I had a health scare and had to go on a heart healthy diet and lost 40 lbs in 2 months. My problem was not being able to stick to it. And once I went back to eating everything in site I'd double what I lost. I think this surgery was my only option. I'm gonna try and get more protein in. I think I've just got burnt out on protein shakes. Needed a break. Thanks for your input.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using BariatricPal mobile app 1 Kat410 reacted to this
jess9395 5,449 Posted July 16, 2017 You really need to work on getting your Protein count up. You will lose muscle mass quickly at only 20-30 grams and toh don't want to do that.I lost weight quickly as well too. As long as you take your Vitamins and keep your protein count higher (what's your surgeons goal?) to preserve muscle mass, I wouldn't worry about the quick loss 1 Missy161 reacted to this
