Has anyone taken phentermine pre op or even post op?

I've just started this journey and I'm on phentermine 15ml (30ml cut in half). I was told I could stay on it, since my surgery will be in 6mo+ and I can only be on this rx for like another 3month safely.

Has anyone taken it post op?

I took 37.5mg of Phentermine once a day for the entirety of my six month insurance-required pre-op diet program. I stopped taking it 2 weeks before surgery and haven't taken it since.

I tried it once pre-op, but it didn't help me lose anything. You won't need it post-op. Your hunger is significantly reduced after the sleeve.

Yes it helped me lose some pre op weight but I really don't think I'll need it after because the surgery is taking care of hunger and cravings. This surgery is awesome.

I took phentermine for my 6 month medically monitored requirement. The first couple months I lost some weight, maybe 15 lbs or so. After that your body gets used to it and I didn't loose much more, maybe a couple lbs a month till the end of my 6 month. But the side effects were awful, made me feel like I was on speed and my heart was always racing. I took it as soon as I woke up and by bed time I was still felt like I was running a mile a minute. I couldn't sleep at all, and I already had issues with sleeping before taking it but it was so much worse. I felt like I was going to stroke out. It caused me to get dangerously high blood pressure. My anxiety was intense. If you can afford Optifast I urge you to do that before taking this pills. I simply couldn't afford optifast so my doc recommended the pills. Wasn't a miracle pill. But at the beginning it did stop the hunger feeling.

What the hell is phentermine??.. sounds like speed for weight loss

Yes, it's just like speed but it's an appetite suppressant, you don't need it every day and the effects aren't very good if you take them every day. Since I've had surgery on June 21st I haven't taken them at all. Appetite is under control pretty good since surgery. I used it to help me keep loosing before surgery so it could help me get the surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
