Sleeved on 5/17 and down 40lbs. Good or bad for a guy?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on May 17 and 3 months later I am down a total of 40lbs. I've only lost 5lbs in the last month and I'm not really sure if that's good or not?

I weighed 265 at the time of surgery and I am 5,10. My goal weight is 180-185. Am I doing something wrong or is this right on track? Any suggestions would help a lot

Your math is a little faulty: May 17 was less than 2 months ago. You were actually sleeved 8 weeks ago if the day of your procedure was May 17.

This means you've lost 20 pounds per month, so you're doing fantastic! :)

You are doing great!! I was a fasyt loser also. I lost 20#'s a month also. But I had problem with Strictures and couldn't eat or drink and needed 5 ENDOSCOPES with 4 DIALATIONS. Quick fix. But my problems started right away within my 6 week check up. It started NOV 2013, DEC 2013, Jan 2014, July 2014 with my last endo being Jan 2015. Everytime my stomach feels funny I think OH NO!! But I do think that is why I lost so fast. I almost lived on oatmeal, Baby Bell cheese and Cheetos!! BAD choice but I needed something to eat. My PA ask me why I didn't eat carrotts. LOL I told them they didn't taste as good as a CHEETO. They were fine with it because I was losing so fast. The Nurse for my Surgeon ask me if I had ever stopped losing weight. Of course I had. Sad but true. It took me 4 years to be abe to eat a beef steak, or whole grain bread. I just now can take 1 slice of bread with 1 slice of ham and 1 slice of cheese. I am so addicted to them!! So I hoe everything is going great for you all. Take care.

You're doing great! You have to remember where you started. I was nearly 4 bills- 375 at the time of surgery a month and a few days ago and have lost 40 since surgery. But I have a lot, lot further to go than you.

You're doing great!!! Keep your focus on winning the war, not the daily, weekly, monthly battles of the scale... Good luck on your journey!

I think what I'm hearing is.. "I lost 35lbs during the preop diet plus the first month postop, but only 5lbs the second month, is that a problem?" It is very common that when we lose extra fast, it's followed by a dramatic slow-down. 35lbs the first month or so WAS extra fast, so your body was playing catch up the second one.

If you were on a regular diet, your doctor would like to see the scale move by 4-10lbs a month. Which means you could expect to have lost between 10 and 25lbs on a regular diet (assuming you did a 2 week preop diet). So you are doing super!

Now that you are on (or soon will be on) regular foods, it's a good time to really plan what you are eating. There is a ton of advice on this site, so peruse some of the old stuff, and if you have specific questions, ask away!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
