My date is Aug 4 and I'm super nervous and crabby.
Started my pre-op diet on Friday and it sounds like one of the more extreme ones: 3 high Protein drinks/shakes a day, 2-3 Snacks of yogurt, sf pudding, cream of Tomato Soup (so random!); and fluids include clear broth, sf Jello, Tomato juice, no caffeine tea/coffee, flat diet soda. It's going to be a long 14 days, but I feel a little better each day I'm on it--just very fatigued.
I plan to make my own tomato Soup today--I'm not so crazy about eating packaged foods.
I've also not been able to get a clear answer about the sugar free stuff. I cut artificial sweeteners out of my life several years ago,(it has helped enormously with reducing headaches and stabilizing my mood) trying to only eat stevia or Monkfruit based ones if unavoidable. However, the pre/post diet seems to include so many. I've asked a couple of the nutritionists if it's a calorie thing or a metabolism thing and I get mixed answers. Some say it's okay to find low sugar things, some say no sugar because of dumping (even before surgery) so I'm kind of confused. I'm just limiting the sf jello products to when I'm desperate, and I don't drink things like crystal light.

Also, for me, I feel the fatigue for sure. I have a friend getting sleeved tomorrow she and I have discussed the fatigue and emotions (crying, crabby) and decided they were normal. Her preop was the most restrictive in my opinion. It was Optifast shakes like 2-3 times per day and then only sugar free liquids, hello, and chicken broth.

Thanks, what book is this? It looks pretty comprehensive. No chicken broth for me, I don't eat poultry or any kind of meat. Luckily I've found some good broth alternatives, and make some of my own.

It's actually one my doctors office males and puts out. If you find the number for Chike they have a "chicken" broth full of Protein that has absolutely zero actual chicken or broth from chicken, it's made from a variety of spices and is delicious but suitable for vegetarians.

Surgery is tomorrow morning! I'm so excited. I've been through a lot of surgeries, so I'm not nervous on that front. I'm more curious to what it will feel like to try to take a sip of Water, eat something, etc...and adjust to the changes. I hope everything goes smoothly for everybody!

I'll check in later this week. I'm not a big phone user. I have one, but I'm horrible with using it most the time. I'm more prone to my iPad, or more comfortable at my desk.

I prayed for you and all of us for tomorrow. I'm like you, many surgeries so not afraid of having surgery. I'm afraid of the buyers remorse people seem to have for like a month afterwards where they get emotional and regret their decision. I know it goes away, but that's a long time. Also, I'm on a lot of medicine and I'm concerned I won't be able to stand it crushed up due to nausea or gross taste, and I'm concerned the sheer volume of my meds won't allow room for anything else in my stomach. I know I'm already quite sick of Clear Liquids. I've started a vlog on youtube to document my journey, both as a personal diary and hopefully to help other people who are considering bypass or need information or possibly just need to have someone they can see taking this journey with them. If you're interested in checking it out on youtube look for Joni M. Good luck to everyone who, like me, begins their new life tomorrow.

I wrote a note to myself and slapped it on my desk.

"BUYERS REMORSE UNTIL ABOUT SOLIDS" -- Hang in there! :)

A reminder that it will pass, and it's a normal experience. I think seeing the daily reminder will help.

Good luck! Yes, I just started something there, too (YT)..will check it out when I get home. Heading out in fifteen mins.

They let me come home a day early (gastric bypass), since I was able to move around, etc...Part of me thought I should stay, afraid to walk away from the fluids and pain meds, but I've been through surgery before, and know it's a matter of time to heal.It was my choice to stay or go....i decided it was as good a time as any.

I slept in my bed half the night, recliner part of the night, then back to bed. Getting fluids down without a problem at this point, so sip, sip, sipping my Protein Shakes (syntrax nectar). Moving about slowly. Will check in in a couple of days when I'm feeling better.

I'm home too. First surgery ever. No prob with Fluid or walking, def have gas. At what point should I be worried about having a bm? My friend got a stricture so I'm fixated on that.

I've gagged the crushed pills down with a spoon of jell-o or something and chased with a drink. Boom, glad to hear things went well for you.

You totally should. That's what I'm doing and why, though of course, I'm not shy. :)

Also, forgot to post this. I'm a little shy about it, but trying to do some videos, etc...to help others, since I watched so many during my 6 months pre-op.

How'd it go croco?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
