Early on they sit in your stomach like a brick.

Protein Shakes are a lot easier while you are still healing the first 6 months.

Ok. Thanks. I just get to full not to supplement with shakes but for some reason they seem to think I should be eating more. All I eat is Protein and without supplementing I'd probably habe to eat constantly all day to get enough right now lol.

Eating real food, real Protein like meat is better for you for a lot reasons. Since it is not pre-processed, your body uses more calories processing meat than it does processing protein supplements, so 200 calories of a protein supplement you will absorb most of the calories, but your body is going to burn more calories processing the dense protein. Also it is more satisfying, and keeps you full longer.

At 2 years out a protein bar for me, does not trigger restriction, 4 ounces of dense protein always does. Some people say they still have restriction with protein bars long term, but that doesn't apply to me. For me they are basically empty calories that do nothing for hunger.

I am 6 wks post op and was cleats to start a regular diet. My nutritionist said try to have Protein Shakes bc they go through you more quickly. I didn't think you ask at my appt. Does anyone eat Protein Bars to get more Protein or are they just too filling this early on?

I was wondering the same thing but found out soon that the bars just sit in my stomach. That was not a good feeling so I decided to stick with getting my Protein from foods.

I got some Premier Protein bars at Walmart today. I cut One Bar into 4 pieces and ate it throughout the day. It dissolves very well with chewing. I got 61 g of Protein today! The most ever!
I am 3 weeks post op but have been released to try any new foods except raw veggies and nuts.

need to watch the sugar and processed crap in a lot of bars. My research led me to Kind 15 gram bars and simply Protein. Fewest ingredients and sugars and lots of protein.

I have to avoid tree nuts because I am highly allergic- that's ruled out so many Protein products :-(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
