Journey4myhealth 7 Posted July 14, 2017 My wife's A1C was 8-something 3 months ago before they upped her meds a bit. She is scared that they won't perform her surgery in 3 weeks if her blood tests show a high A1c. Anyone have experience with this? 1 KathyawesomeSmith reacted to this
KathyawesomeSmith 10 Posted July 14, 2017 Mine was 8.8 and my fasting blood glucose was 178 with meds. The moment the surgery is done, everything will change. Don't worry. This is why they do the surgery.
Angie's_Ocean 213 Posted July 14, 2017 I just signed up for BariatricPal for this very reason. To find out what happens if you can't get your A1C down. Mine is way too high right now (for years) I'm not even booking a consultation at this point
PatientEleventyBillion 851 Posted July 14, 2017 As others said your glycated hemoglobin type A1C being that high is a very good indicator for the necessity of this surgery. If adequate changes are made and no improvements after a handful of months occur, and it's acquired Type 2, I'd then be a bit concerned. My peak HBA1c was 7.9 (well in the range of diabetic), it lowered over the last several months and as of June it was 4.9, making me completely non-diabetic, and I've been off all diabetes meds for months with very good blood sugar. It's quite amazing how forgiving the body is. 1 cbf reacted to this
