Let's share some post op tips! My best tool so far has been Unjury chicken broth flavor. One scoop in eight oz of Water is 21 grams of Protein. I put my daily benefiber in there and it's great! I'm also loving my homemade crystal light popsicles with added unflavored Protein Powder. Who else has post op tips?

Where do you get the un injury chicken broth?

Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

I bought it through the Unjury website, www.unjury.com.

Good tips! I am going to check to see if they have veggie broth. I will try to crystal light popsicles, I could not eat the sugar free ones.

Thanks for the tips!

Anyone having trouble getting past 2-3 ounces of Protein? Or drinking Water? I'm getting about 36 ounces of liquids down in 12 hours. Dr. wants me between 40-60 by the end of week 2. And at least 60 grams of protein. I'm having to force myself, which makes baby tummy hurt. Or dump. (Not fun). Trying to find a balance so I don't get dehydrated or hurt. Day 7 post-op.

I'm hovering around 45-50 oz of water. I'm lucky if I get in 40-50 g of protein. I've found that replacing one meal with a Protein Shake and adding unflavored protein to beverages has really helped. Also 7 days out.

I'm 5th day post-op. I'm on liquids only. Didn't expect hunger pangs already. I've gotten them once or twice the last couple of days. I didn't think I would be hungry.

Interested in what you all have been feeling.

I'm day 8 post-op today and I just started feeling hungry yesterday. I was thinking that maybe I need more Protein so I decided to try to eat a little more today. I am on pureed foods and I ate about two thirds of a scrambled egg this morning, a Protein Shake for lunch, and sugar free Jello for a snack. I also added unflavored protein powder to a bottle of Water. I'm still feeling a little bit of hunger, but not nearly as much as yesterday.

I'm 6 days post-op and I've had hunger pangs or 'flavor pangs' since day 3! I'm getting in about 50-60 oz of Water without a problem and I'm able to take in about 4-5oz at each meal. I'm sticking to skim milk with added milk powder or unflavored hot Cereal with unflavored Protein for Breakfast, 1/2c vegetable juice for a snack, cream Soup for lunch, sugar free Jello for snack and broth or kefir for dinner. Sugar free popsicles have been my lifesaver this last week. I want all of my drinks super cold and I could chew on ice chips all day long! My first post-op appointment is tomorrow so I'm going to bring up a few of my issues with him, in hopes that I can stay on track for the long haul!

Much better day today! 60 oz of Protein from a combination of shakes, yogurt, and egg custard. Actually had an appetite and baby tummy handled it well. Still having trouble with liquids, but managed to get down 25 ounces of Water and a popsicle. Feel so much better being hydrated!

I get the flavor pains. I'm finding my sense of smell is much stronger! And I have the memory of the flavor. I keep telling myself that it's okay. I love the smell of lilacs, but don't want to eat them. It's kind of nice to just enjoy the smell and know there's no calories or guilt involved.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
