Pre Op meal replacement shakes / drinks

Recommended Posts

For anybody currently doing the 2 week liquid diet, which shake/drink are you using. I am currently trying different ones to see what I like. Just had my 4th monthly weigh in today. Down 12lbs since I started. I am hoping to get the sleeve done sometime in October so I can begin the next chapter of my life.

I have tried the Bariatric Fusion Meal Replacement shakes with my surgeon has on his recommendation sheet. They are not that bad. My doctors 2 week diet is all liquids with 1200 calorie intake no food everything has to be liquid. They told me the premier is good for after the surgery. I need to buy one to try to make sure I like before I buy at costco. Thanks everybody for the recommendations.

I hate sweet drinks and flavored drinks so I am using a grassfed whey Protein and I added Fiber to it (both chia seeds and inulin are carb free since the fiber = their carbs). Doc totally approved. This way I will stay regular and my gut bugs will have some food even if I personally am STARVING! Two drinks a day and one small dinner. I do a brunch/lunch with one drink and save the other for evening.

2 whey Protein isolate shakes and 1 premier (plus one serving each of vegetable, fruit, and starch).

For Breakfast, I make a shake with cashew milk (unsweetened vanilla=25 calories). For lunch, I have a premier since I'm at work (usually the "opposite" flavor from what I had for breakfast/chocolate or vanilla).

For dinner, I put unflavored whey protein isolate into broth for a change from all the sweet. (I've been using different kinds of broth for variety. I usually mix low sodium veggie with regular chicken or beef to cut the sodium without having it taste like dirty water).

I usually have my fruit as a morning snack, a SF Jello (considered a liquid) in the afternoon. I'll either have my "dinner" shake or my veggie when I get home to get something in me since I'm usually feeling pretty empty by then. The order of things depends on timing and what I'm having.

I often have a SF popsicle in the evening.

All of that totals between 600 and 700 calories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
