Today I found out, after 6 months of appointments and prepping, my file has been sent to insurance for approval and I have a tentative surgery date! August 7th will be the first day of the rest of my new life. I'm so beyond ready, but so beyond scared at the same time.

It took me a long time to make this decision. I tried everything. My brother was able to lose over 100 lbs with diet and exercise. I'm not made like that. Coming to this decision made me feel like a failure, like I was taking the easy way out. But after all these appointments and discussions I've come to realize this will be much more difficult than diet and exercise. I don't want to end up like my mom who was obese and got very sick early in life. She was in the nursing home at 52 and passed away at 59. I don't want that to happen to me.

Being able to have this outlet to bounce questions around and reading other people's experiences is so helpful! Any tips and info would be so appreciated!

I agree totally that this is in no way the easy way out. This will be a hard journey, but you can do it. I'm 3 weeks post op myself and never thought I would be where I am now. It seemed to take forever!
Just listen to your doctor and follow their program to the T. Every surgeon is different, as you will find out on here, but do what your doc tells you.
Good luck and keep us posted! [emoji16]

Thank you so much! Have you found that cravings have gone away or anything? That's what I'm worried about. I'm so food obsessed and I worry I'll give in when I shouldn't.

After surgery I have no appetite or cravings. I am only on puréeds right now and eat because I have to. It's not bad at all. You'll have to work on the food obsession, try to realize when you are really hungry and when it's just head hunger. It has been easier so far for me because I just don't feel hungry.
You'll get through this! Keep your eye on the prize! [emoji4]

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
