What's the difference?

Recommended Posts

What is the difference between mushies and soft food? On my mushies, I am allowed:

cottage cheese

oatmeal

cream of wheat

grits

cream Soup

mashed potatoes

soft cooked veggies

ripe bananas

Soup with noodles

blended Soups

scrambled eggs

refried Beans

My dr didn't give me a list for what's next....I guess because I go in 4 weeks post op for a follow up and fill. I will probably get it then. I was just wondering what is considered "soft foods". Thanks.

Soft foods & mushies mean the same thing in my mind too.

I went from clear liquid-->full liquid--->mushies--->normal food.< /p>

Maybe you misunderstood them, but definitely ask.

Maybe they mean 'softly get into normal foods'? LOL..

The sheet they gave me says full liquds/mushies on the page that lists the foods I listed above. I think they consider full liquids and mushies to be the same. On my first phase of liquids, I got pudding, yogurt and baby food fruit. Seems to me those would be more mushies than liquids. I don't know.....doesn't matter, I was just curious.

That's what I would think, too. I've always understood "full liquids" to be liquids that you can drink through a straw but can't see through. Like milk, thin cream Soups, stuff like that. "Mushies," to me, are very, very soft foods, like pureed vegetables, soups, pureed meats, etc. I've always though "soft foods" are just soft regular food, but aren't quite as soft and smooth as "mushies." Like a well-cooked carrot or other veggies. You still have to chew, but not as much as with regular food. Mushies, of course, are foods that you could go ahead and swollow, like oatmeal and cream of wheat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
