Pre-op diet starts today would love advice

Recommended Posts

I'm living in Dublin, Ireland and bariatric surgery is not very common here so people think it's weird or a cheat way to lose weight so in summary not everyone is on the same page as me.

I'm pretty scared about the next two weeks I'm just wondering does anyone have any tips or hacks to make this pre-op phase as user friendly as possible. My surgeon guidelines are just follow low fat diet. I'm living for the 27th of July so I want to make the most of it.

My brother is in the US with his job and he's buying me some bariatric Vitamins. Does anyone have any opinions on bariatric vitamins?IMG_20170707_052757_870.jpg

Thanks in advance for any tips or advice

Hi there! I'm in the south of England and it's the same here, despite my local hospital being a bariatric specialist.

Im on a no carb no sugar diet just 4 pints of milk 2 of Water and a bovril for dinner. It's so hard. I'm craving all the foods! All I would say is what's worked for me is reading the horror stories of what happens to people who don't follow their pre op diet. It's made me stick to the milk! Im 8 days in to a 14 day diet. Every day you stick to it is a triumph. Go on gal! I would avoid shopping, dinners out and lazy work lunches.

If you don't mind my asking, how do you feel now that you're on day 8? Still hungry? I can't fathom how everyone isn't drowning in fatigue after day 2!

The hunger has gone the cravings haven't. I can only describe it as I am full but not satisfied. Energy is low, especially trying to get out of bed in the morning but finding other things to motivate me.

it is tough but if you don't do it you could get into surgery and your lover is too large and fatty for them to operate so they send you back to the ward. I would be hilumiliated if they did that to me. I also read a story where a woman's liver split 😱 . Also if you can't do two weeks then why have the op? It's a lifelong commitment to your health. You can stretch your stomach back out in abyears time. It's YOU who has to control your portions from then onwards x

Wow the liver split story is motivation enough for me!!! Day one I was like a dog but I was down nearly a kg ( mostly Water I presume) but in a day it's unreal to think your weight can start to shift. I think it's eyes on the prize and Keep focused on the operation and life after. My surgeon was a little casual about everything and like just make sure I follow a low fat diet with no alcohol definitely nothing as severe as the milk plan you're on!! I'm just eating Exante diet food for the two weeks.

My doctor has me on 2 Protein Drinks and a dinner of a portion of Protein (meat or fish) with veggies. It is like starving for the 5 hours of afternoon. The first two days were the worst though. It's still horrible but the liver thing: I want to shrink mine well. So I am sticking like glue to this diet.

i asked the doctor what is the main thing to avoid to shrink the liver. It's carbs, not fat. To the OP, make sure you avoid all unnecessary carbs. Your little meals should be protein and veg. Most Proteins have some fats in it, don't worry. Plus you can have some olive oil on your veggies. I know the summer fruit is out and I love fruit but I am not touching it.

We can do this!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
