Hello everyone. I had surgery scheduled for July 25th but due to my weight gain(yeah yeah, I know spare me the lecture please !) the surgeon does not feel comfortable going forward with the original date. So yeah, I know this is for safety reasons---I have to shrink my liver but still am disappointed.

I know surgery is not the end all be all--I'm currently seeing a therapist regarding my food issues

and emotional eating patterns. I guess this just makes me feel like a failure, like I went through all

the pre op visits and now I am set back. Better safe though , I am trying to see the bright side of things.

Thanks for the vent session.

I'm sorry to hear that. But you can't give up now. If you did, all you've done so far would be for nothing. It's a struggle but you can see the light at the end. Kudos for acknowledging you may need a therapist and actually seeing one! Good job! What were your pre-op requirements?

So sorry but I believe everything happens for a reason. When you do have surgery you'll be better prepared. My surgery was pushed back a whole month bc my surgeon took the month of April off.

Welcome! I'm not judging you for the weight gain. I also gained weight preoperatively due to food funerals (compulsively eating favorite foods 'one last time' before saying "goodbye"). Luckily, the operation preceded as planned and I've been able to maintain my 100+ pound weight loss.

The honeymoon period of 6 to 18 months will be a time of almost effortless weight loss because neurohormonal changes have altered your setpoint. However, after the honeymoon period ends, the likelihood of weight regain is staggeringly high if you don't get your head fully into the game.

Bariatric surgeons operate on our stomachs, not our brains. People have regained 100+ pounds with their bands, sleeves and bypass pouches in place.

I'd say 90 percent of this game is psychological. Pre-existing issues with compulsive eating, binge-eating, food addiction or emotional eating will never be corrected by weight loss surgery. The majority of people with these issues need some professional help to avoid repeating same pre-surgery eating patterns.

Good luck to you. You've got this. :)

It's not just about safety. If you're gaining weight you didn't make changes and develop habits that the surgery will help you continue.

As a preop person you will not find me lecturing you, but I am cheering you on - you can do it because the first three steps have already been taken #1) deciding you want the surgery #2) recognizing an issue #3) getting help to fix the issue.

So you are far along in the success of the journey. I say HOORAY FOR YOU.

I feel your pain. I've been trying to lose weight pre-op for 4 months to no avail. They started me on a pre-op diet which I have stuck to to a T and I began working out. I did that for two months. and nothing. I stopped working out because all it was causing me was severe hip pain. So I started having a Protein Shake (the recommended ones - 1g sugar blah blah blah) for Breakfast, and a light lunch and dinner. Still nothing. So within the past month I have switched to a Protein shake for breakfast and lunch and a light dinner and all I've lost is time. In fact since I saw the doctor I've gained 11lbs. I go for my last nutrition visit today and I know she is going to tell me I'm lying and there is no way that I could have not lost weight by eating that way. But the thing is, that is the reason I decided to have the surgery, because no matter what I tried I could not lose weight. I do not know what the answer is, but I wish you luck on your journey.

I feel your pain. I have a weigh-in tomorrow and I fear I haven't lost enough weight since my last weigh-in. I've been very good with my eating habits, with a few slip-ups. My scale says I'm down significantly, but their scale (as I've learned last time) seems to add pounds on. I was really hoping to get a date for August, but perhaps it needs to be pushed back to September.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
