I have struggled with Constipation since the surgery (and I am 9 months post-op). If I haven't gone by the third day, I take a dose of Milk of Magnesia, and it always does the trick.

I've just learned to live with it. It is par for the course with a Keto way of eating as I understand it.

Do you take a full cap of the milk of magnesia ?? Because I took just 30mg and I'm still waiting 😩

Lordy. Timely post. Fighting this today. MOM was a dud. Stool softener was a dud. Md office recommended Miralax. We shall see.

Blizair09. Really? This is the new norm?

Constipation was a fairly constant problem for me until I was on regular foods again. Now I can mostly stave it away by having 3 servings of fruit/veg a day and including high Fiber starch when I do eat a serving, usually once every other day.

I take 3 tablespoons. It works for me within 2 hours (usually faster).

@Dabearo, it has been for me. But I follow a strict Keto diet so I have no fiber, my Protein is over 120 grams per day, and I only have 20 carbs. It just goes with the territory.

I don't like it. I am 6 months out and struggle with no daily BM. Every three or so. I take colace and or MoM and still nothing. I'll try to include more fiber.

Magnesium should help. Capsules not tablets. Or liquid like nature calm powder - mix and wait til it's not so fizzy, we aren't supposed to drink fizzy stuff

Milk of magnesia worked for me. But I would take it when you can be close to a bathroom because DANG it worked. My dr also told me it could take a couple months for BM to get back to normal

Once you get something to work and clear you out, try adding a spoon full of benefiber once a day. That's what did it for me

Hi I'm 7 weeks post-op. And I have learn that because you do not gave a lot going in (food intake) you will not have a lot coming out (bowel movement). What once was your normal will be a thing of the past. I think that your norm will be somewhere like every 3 days. At least that is what I found to be the case with me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
