Government employees/contractors

Recommended Posts

Has anyone that's gone to Mexico for Bariatric surgery had any issues with your security office traveling out of the country for medical reasons?

We have to fill out a pre travel form detailing flights, contacts with foreign nationals, hotels, etc and then do a debrief when we return.

The form is simple enough, but I'm wondering what other folks have experienced with a government job and Medical Tourism.

Thanks!

I am not sure why you would need to even fill anything out since you are traveling on your own leave time and not as a representative of the government.

I am a government employee and I have both a personal passport and a government passport. I only use the gov passport for official gov travel. I had my surgery in Mexico and did not even tell my job about it. I was on annual leave so it wasn't any of their business what I was doing.

If this is a security clearance issue, generally my impression is that Mexico is not a restricted country and generally should not be a problem to visit that nation. The fact that you might be having surgery there might generate some vulnerability red flags. So you may want to consult your security office just in case.

Not sure what your security level you have but I have a Top Secret clearance as a contractor and all that you describe seems a bit much for travel to a country that is not considered a heightened risk security concern. All that was required for me was to provide country, dates and reason for travel. I had no issues at all.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
