Dr. Emma Patterson in Portland Oregon

Recommended Posts

Just checking to see who has had their surgery performed by Dr. Patterson. I chose her because of her experience and the fact that her practice is a Center of Excellence. I liked her when we met. However, her front office doesn't communicate well at all. For my labs, I specifically asked if I could come in any time to get the blood work and EKG done and was told that no, to come in on a prescheduked appointment day and they'd walk me through it all. Not true. My appointment with them was at 11. I found out after the appointment that I could have had the blood work and EKG done before I got there, which would have saved me a couple of hours. When I met with Dr. Patterson, she scheduled me in for surgery on August 2, but when Imchecked in with the office for my labs, they said I still had a class and another meeting with her that had to happen before the surgery and they didn't see that I was booked. I'd already taken the time off work and rescheduled plans around this date, so I'm frustrated. It also concerns me that this poor communication might affect the surgery as well. Maybe it's just pre-op nerves, but when I am trusting someone to remove 7/8ths of my stomach, I kinda want to feel like everyone involved has their act together.

Any feedback for me? I'd especially like to hear from other Patterson patients. Thanks

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
