justgrinding 9 Posted September 11, 2017 Hello I can use a buddy as well my surgery is 9/18. What type of pre-op duet does your dr have you doing? What types of food have you stocked up on foe after surgery?Sent from my SM-G900V using BariatricPal mobile app2 week pre-op diet: 4 shakes and 2 Protein Bars (all bariatric advantage) a banana or cup of skim milk, up to 3 sugar free Jellos a day plus 64 oz of Water. By day 3 I was struggling to get banana and last shake in, despite the low calories I am pretty full and loosing weight. 3 days left...
zleng 45 Posted September 14, 2017 I went through my surgery on Tuesday 9/5/17. One week ago. I was discharged from the hospital on 9/7/17. The surgery went well, the nurse assistance at the hospital was terrible. But I am home now. The most interesting things that I went through this week were:- head hunger is real. It's so interesting! The head tells you "eat eat eat". In the first days our new stomach is very powerful, like a second brain, and immediately replies "don't even try, Real Brain! Mind your business" this duality is so interesting and I'll do all I can to never forget this sensation because when it comes to hunger it is very important understand which brain is talking and I am sure over time the Real Brain will be lauder!!!- I can't do anymore Protein shakes! They just steal space for my water!!!Thanks God my doctor today cleared me for pureed food so that I can add tons of plain soy protein in my puree- I miss drinking 30-40 oz of Water in one single set of gulpings. I miss that so much. Even if I sip all day and I eventually drink over 60 oz, that doesn't satisfy me. - my surgery accesses on my abdomen are not fully healed. Especially the one in which the drainage was.- I lost over 20 pounds since the day before surgery and I couldn't be happier. You guys? How are you all doing? That is awesome my doctor gave me a folder of what to eat before surgery, I'm on a strict 1200 cal diet, then whole day liquid diet the day before the 26th. Are you taking the chewable vitamins? I'm taking Celebrate.
amyemer 4 Posted September 14, 2017 I picked up the Vitamins but haven't started them yet but I was already taking vitamins so I'm doing those until I have my surgery. I had to buy the shake mix from my surgeons office so I'm doing 4 of those a day. I'm allowed some vegetables, sugar free Jello, broth, and sugar free popsicles. I live near Chico and my surgery will be in Lodi.

Cateyez001 28 Posted September 17, 2017 Hey guys I decided to go to Rent A Center and rent lift recliner for 3 weeks. Here so many people complain about getting in and out of the bed. Sent from my SM-G900V using BariatricPal mobile app
ahowens1984 2 Posted September 17, 2017 I could use an online friend(s) too (I'm in NC)- my surgery is September 26th. I'm getting both excited and nervous! If anybody has Vitamin advice, I could also use them! I know Walmart sells liquid vitamins, but I'm not sure how good they are for surgery. I think it has alcohol in it to make them liquid.< br> I know that Centrum makes Vita-Mints that are melting- I just need to compare stats to make sure it has everything needed!Hey guys I decided to go to Rent A Center and rent lift recliner for 3 weeks. Here so many people complain about getting in and out of the bed. Sent from my SM-G900V using BariatricPal mobile appI'm in SC, and my surgery is Sept 25. My bariatric clinic recommends chewable vitamins - the chalky ones, not gummies. I got some vitamin patches that I've heard good things about. I went in for my RnY on June 1, but when the surgeon got in there, she found a mass and closed me right back up. After a referral to an oncologist, another surgery, a couple months, and 2 more weeks of the pre-op diet, I'm back on track and soooo ready. It was devastating to wake up and find out that my bypass hadn't been done. Sent from my VS988 using BariatricPal mobile app

justgrinding 9 Posted September 17, 2017 I'm 3 days post op. Hospital and doctors were great (Inova, Va). The On- Q pain pump has ready numbed the incision sites and medication has effectively controlled internal pain. The doctor also corrected a hiatal hernia which has added some mild discomfort to the chest area. All in, the recovery is much better that I expected. 2 kookiekins and amyemer reacted to this
LifeChangesLori 79 Posted September 18, 2017 Hi all! So I am ok, did not have bypass surgery as expected on 9/12 as when they got in there the surgeon found no gallbladder. I guess I never had one since my surgery when I was 2. My parents were told that I had no appendix but still had the gallbladder. What they were seeing was that my upper intestine was attached to the wall of my stomach. They had to cut out 6 inches of it because it was full of scar tissue. There was so much scar tissue that they could not do the Bypass so I had a Lysis of Adhesion, surgery took 5 1/2 hours! Now I am no longer a candidate for any type of bypass surgery:( Surgeon said it was like a bomb went off in there, he has never seen anything like it. He even called a couple other specialists in during surgery to help him find the gallbladder but it did not exist. The scar tissue they saw was being diagnosed as gallstones. Was pretty disappointing. I came home this afternoon. The surgeon was pretty down as well cuz he could not do what we wanted to do. I am so down and in pain! Hard to stay positive when this whole year and a half feels like it was for nothing. But, I have lost 30 pounds since I began this process. I have to find a way to do this on my own. Good luck to everyone!

It speaks to my worst fear -- that all of the pre-op testing will uncover something wrong with me that will mean no surgery, either.
