How much are you able to eat?

Recommended Posts

I'm now 6months out since surgery. I'm curious as to how much are others eating. I've noticed that I can eat 4-5oz.

I am 27 months out and can eat 8 to 10 ounces at one sitting.

I'm starting my 8th week and I can eat 3-4 oz Protein. Or I can eat 6 oz Okios yogurt or about 5 oz of cottage cheese.

Almost 10 months out and I can eat 3-4oz of lean Protein with 2-3 oz of veggies on the side, so anywhere from 5-7oz of food in one sitting.

My approach is to eat specified amounts of food, not what I "can" eat and not eating until I am "full." With that said, I eat 4 oz of cottage cheese at one meal, 3 oz of chicken or salmon with 1 oz of green Beans at a meal, 2 oz of hamburger steak with 1 oz of green beans at a meal, etc. I eat 8 times per day, about 2 hours apart. As I have moved along (I'm 9 months post-op now), I have added calories by adding meals, not adding food to existing meals.

Everything for me is about oz of food, fl oz of Water, and target macros.

If I ate 8 times a day, I'd never find time to drink! Lol.

I'm 3.5 months out, and eat the same thing each day:

Breakfast: 4oz cottage cheese

Lunch: 1 egg and 4oz Beans

Snack: 1oz nuts and piece of fruit

Dinner: 3-4oz meat or fish

Snack: 4 oz cooked spinach

Most days I miss at least one meal or snack. The missed food is what I eat for Breakfast the next day so I'm making sure I get my nutrients.

My kitchen scale had given up the ghost, so I went without for a few weeks. I got a new one, and it works much better! So happy! I've gotten pretty good at guestimating 4 oz, but like having the scale.

I use containers to measure my ounces. I have 2 oz and 3 oz cups and 4 oz ramekins.

I am over 3 months out and I can only eat 2 - 3 oz depending on the Protein. Fish and turkey (3oz) but chicken (2oz). Vegetables as Snacks (3oz).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
