Advice from folks on a full fluid diet...

Recommended Posts

Disclaimer: These are my doctor's instructions and I will not be waivering from them, but based on the feed back I receive I may talk to him on Thursday about a restructure program if necessary.

I am currently on the "full Fluid diet portion" of the program which runs 10 days. I am still hungry and I wanted to know if my portions are in line with what your doctor recommended. Or are you eating the same or less and surviving...or barely hanging on. Do you think that the portions in my diet plan are reasonable...or crazy. I am basily taking a poll.

Breakfast

1/4 cup of ensure lite Protein drink

1/4 cup of milk

1/4 cup of juice

Mid AM snack (choose ONE)

1/4 cup of juice or

1/4 yogurt or

1/4 cup of milk

lunch

1/4 cup of strained cream Soup

1/4 cup of milk

1/4 cup of pudding or yogurt

Mid PM Snack (choose ONE)

1/4 cup of ensure lite Protein Drink or

or 1/4 Jell-0

dinner

1/4 cup of strained cream Soup

1/4 cup of milk

1/4 cup of pudding or yogurt

Eveing Snack

1/4 cup of Ensure lite Protein Drink

To ensure I get in all my Protein I can add my whey soya Protein powder to my Water that I drink through out the day to help fill me up and increase protein intake. (I hate whey soya protein powder...it taste gawd awful!!! (YUCKY!)

So how much do you drink in a day? Am I just being a pig? Or is my doctor crazy? Please share your stories so we can have a talk on Thursday if we need to. I won't talk to him if all of you come back and say this is normal; I will just tough it out.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Amy, my instructions are 5 - 8oz servings of Protein shake. I use skim milk and unjury. Add to that through the day I need do drink 54 oz of liquids, such as Water, crystal light, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello.

I don't start on creamed strained Soups until Sunday. I had my surgery on Friday the 5th. I can't wait to try some soup!!

Are you hungry?

I am on full liquids as well, and here is my typical day:

Breakfast:

1 Cup of coffee

1 Dannon Fit and Light Yogurt

1 Viactiv Calcium Supplement

1 Centrum Multi-Vitamin

16 Ounces of Water mixed with Crystal light (after 30 minute wait)

Lunch:

1 Myoplex Carb Sense shake

16 Ounces of Water mixed with Crystal light (after 30 minute wait)

Snack:

1 Jello sugar free pudding

1 Cup of coffee

Dinner:

1 Muscle Milk pudding

16 Ounces of water mixed with Crystal light (after 30 minute wait)

Snack:

1 sugar free Popsicle

I am getting around 700 calories a day from this, and I don't feel hungry, as long as I spread the meals out correctly. I eat "dinner" at 5:00, as I'm preparing to leave for the day, and I work out as soon as I get home. That way the Crystal Light snack is a wonderful post-workout relief, and I can chill out for awhile before eating the popsicle that takes care of any before bed munchies.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
