Retrying Refried Beans for the Relcutant

Recommended Posts

As a mid thirties bloke who was a 90% deep fried carnivore before VSG, I gotta give it credit; this food is really worth giving a second chance.

Before my VSG I'd never go near the stuff, I mean lets face it, it's not exactly appetizing to look at.

Three weeks post VSG now and now it's like crack cocaine to me.

Mix it with some yoghurt, salsa, spices (cumin, cayenne, paprika, oregano) and some good quality chicken stock to thin it out and dinner is served in under two minutes.

I've read about others mixing with sour cream and cheese and such, but personally I'm happy with good old plain yogurt.

Makes me wonder, what other foods have people found that they had previously hated or avoided pre-op that they're now converted to?

I'll join you in your bean discussion. Preop, I actually made a post here, voicing my concern about Beans being highly recommended post-op, but that I couldn't tolerate them, digestively. Magical fruit, my ass! Lol.

BUT postop, I eat beans every single day, and don't get gas from them at all (or at least not significantly). I'm soooo happy about that, because now, beans with eggs on top is my favorite meal! (Eggs in a little butter, cooked over-medium, so the yolk mixes with the beans.. add garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper before cooking. Yum!) I don't add salt because even plain canned beans have salt from the canning process.

It's amazing how the surgery really does change us, in so many ways. We don't just look different and act different, we ARE different people. It's the strangest thing, but I swear it's true.

I've lived in Maryland with my hubby for 18 years. Never thought much about it, but suddenly I'm looking at Alaska as a place I could just up and move to! It's like, craziness! Now, I don't actually think I'll move anytime soon (and not actually Alaska), but I do feel much more motivated to make a ton of changes. Before surgery, it all would have been too daunting...

My only complaint about refried Beans is the ridiculous amount of carbs they have. Other than that, refried beans with salsa is one of my favorites!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
