  1. 1. Would you have your gastric sleeve all over again knowing what you do now, and what you can/can't have, and side effects?

    • Absolutely this was the best decision, I don't regret a thing

I am trying to make sure that I'm making the right decision, to ease my anxiety and see how others feel truthfully! Thank you

What is a great decision for me, might not be a great decision for you.

I am thrilled with my surgery but there are plenty of people that post here that are unhappy with theirs so...

Other peoples opinions on their surgery experiences are not really going to help you.

Glad I made this life change. Yes at times I miss certain things but 7 months post and down 60 lbs and feel great. I am by the book and get nervous at times when I eat bad. Sometimes I find myself sneaking back to my bad habits but glad when I get full faster.

I had been wanting the surgery for a number of years before my doctor finally agreed to make the recommendation, and wish that she would have signed off on it year before as I feel that I lost so much of my life to being overweight. Most importantly pictures with my kids as I don't really have any.

Like others I was nervous going into the surgery but knew that what I was doing was right for me and my family. I even went through a bout where I regretted my decision in the days/week following surgery. This was because I was in discomfort and frustrated that I couldn't eat anything. I was sick of Protein Drink and baby food. But this passed and I'm grateful for my tool.

Before you make this decision, ask yourself these 5 questions. This is what I asked myself before I made the decision:

1) Have I truly tried everything (before WLS) to lose weight?

2) Am I considering this surgery because I think it is the easy way out?

3) Am I willing to sacrifice my current lifestyle for a better one?

4) Can I accept the pain/consequences that come with this surgery?

5) Will this truly better my life in the long run?

These questions helped me make this decision. I was ready and willing. My only regret is not of knowing or doing it sooner.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
