Struggling with the sleeve...normal?

Recommended Posts

I am a week and a day post-op.

i'm having diarrhea issues. Everytime I eat drink i have to [emoji90]... not cool.

Not to mention how weird food and drinks feel when going down.

And then on top of that every time I eat or drink I feel huge air bubbles in my stomach and intestines. I don't know if this stuff is just part of the process...but i'm not happy. I'm just...struggling.

Is this normal? Any advice from Sleeve veterans?

Thanks,

Alexis

I had the same issue with diarrhea for about 3 weeks post op. Everything seemed to level out after I was able to start eating regular foods. I do feel the air bubbles if I eat to fast or too much. It does eventually get easier. I am 6 months post opp and feel much better now. I still get the air bubble feeling if I eat or drink too fast so it is just adjusting to eat and drink slower.

Hope this helps.

If you don't feel good, just call your doc. I never got any of those symptoms but I don't know what's normal and not.

I didn't have that exact problem, but the first month my body was all messed up, and energy levels were out of whack.

Sorry you are going through this-- the first month, IMO, really does suck! Once you are cleared for more and more foods, I think it will get better. The variety in your diet and eating food for energy instead of shakes really helps things along. Good luck!

It is normal. The air bubbles especially. I would get them every time I ate or drank something in the first 2 weeks. You may also feel a foamy mouth when you first start eating. Also, I have foamy mouth when I eat one bite too many.

I did not have diarrhea. I was constipated most of the time. I do get it now if I eat something that does not agree with my sleeve (I tried red meat recently - omg I felt like I was dying).

If your really feeling like something is wrong then reach out to your Surgeon. Only you know your body and if something is off, you will know and feel it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
