Going for surgery but having erosive gastritis

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone , I really need some help, I'm going for a sleeve but after an endoscopy the dr said that I have so much gastric acid , another Dr said its erosive gastritis ... my surgeon said he wants me to go for mini by pass biz of the acid reflux , but I really don't want to do it , I want a sleeve biz it's still better according to my age and situation, and he said if I want to go for a sleeve he should make my stomach tighter , may u please help me deciding ? Or if any one experienced that before I'll appreciate ur help alot thank you

@Kawkab

if you have acid reflux now, it "probably"

will continue PO. (maybe worse feelings):wacko:

if you never had reflux problems

you might still get reflux PO sleeve

some peep that have the sleeve,

then major heartburn - will get

a revision to gastric bypass

i had the sleeve, no probs with heartburn

IMO i agree with surgeon - i would have the

bypass over the sleeve any day of the week

and twice on sundays!!

good luck with your decision

I agree that you should explore other options. The RNY Bypass is thought to be a cure for acid problems (many times it is.. although occasionally someone will still have trouble). I'm not as familiar with the mini bypass, so won't comment on that one.

I know how upsetting it must be to have your heart set on one procedure, then be told a different one my be better for you. Take your time, do your research of the bypasses (and research why acid reflux with the sleeve is a problem).

Hopefully you can figure out the right path for you.

Good luck!

i said the following statement up above post

IMO i agree with surgeon - i would have the

bypass over the sleeve any day of the week

and twice on sundays!!

________________________________________________________________

@Kawkab

i didn't say the above statement correctly

even i got confused when i re-read it!!:lol:

i meant to say i think bypass would be a better

choice if you already have reflux

many OP choose the gastric bypass over the

sleeve to avoid acid reflux

I hardly ever had heartburn in the past

no revision for me from sleeve

sleeve and have walked "arm and arm"

almost 6 years;-)"we" couldn't be happier

105 lbs down and maintaining (fluctuate a little)

G O A L !!!

good luck bud with your important decision

@Kawkab

if you do have heartburn now, maybe you should have gastric

bypass, or another WLS (you shouldn't have heartburn then)

maybe talk to doc more - he already told you he doesn't think sleeve is

best WLS for you - butttt, its your decision - i know your WLS is less

than a week away, take your time - then make your choice.

in the long run, its up to you!!

as far as being excited/scare - extremely popular emotions that many

peep go through.

good luck bud

kathy

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
