emma93 18 Posted July 3, 2017 Hello! I am new to the page and my surgery is in a week! I am excited but nervous, I guess I always thought I wouldn't get approved or this day wouldn't come but I am excited even though I am super nervous. Can I get any advice for the first week after surgery? I will not have too much help around the house afterward, will this be okay? Was is difficult to get fluids in, and get out of bed? I can have anyone stop by anytime I just won't have anyone staying with me.

niseys4 130 Posted July 4, 2017 Hi Emma! My name is Niseys4. Both my daughter & sister had WLS. They were encouraged by their Drs to get up & walk soon after waking up from recovery. It helps with the gas you will have & to help prevent blood clots! My surgery is not till Nov 1st!😟. Lots of walking is very important. Bed rest only when your tired. LaLa Ladybug 57 Posted July 9, 2017 From what I've been told Emma93, the key points are sip, sip, sip, & walk, walk, walk. How long will you be in the hospital? As far as getting out of bed once you're home, try laying down now, wrap your arms around you like you're giving yourself a hug, and roll to your side towards the edge of the bed till you can stick your legs out. Letting your legs go down to the door will help get you out and use gravity to stand up (slowly). Probably sounds weird, but my sister (retired nurse) taught me this when I had abdominal surgery once. 1 niseys4 reacted to this
