Any people on Seroquel (quetiapine)and on pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

The hunger at night is very persistent. Daytime I'm fine. It's just after I've taken the Seroquel.

I quit seroquel a few months ago. I have surgery 7/31. It made me gain 100 lbs and I was ravenously hungry at night, which is when I took it. Lost 40 lbs since stopping but it's pretty much permanently destroyed my metabolism. I highly suggest coming off it or switching drugs if possible.

I experience trouble sleeping due to insomnia plus mild mania without it but the weight loss, lower BP, etc is worth it.

I was on it pre and post up. I suffer from bipolar depression: however my psychiatrist said she needed to change my meds or the surgery would be for nothing. Talk to your doctor. You may need to change meds to better your success.

I'm planning on coming off it after surgery, your metabolism is going to change luckily after surgery,so that's one box ticked !
Thank you very much for posting a message. Seroquel is a toxic and a demon. It's a drug that diabetics but my psychiatrists have been prescribing it for me for 13 years,I'm diabetic

The past 2 nights have been hell considering I'm meant to be on a pre/op diet. I've cheated the past 2 nights. I'm fine during the day but it's after taking the Seroquel that I get ravenous and I just have to eat.

My pharmacist and GP didn't give me correct dosages for liquid Rivotril/clonezepam. It's administered in drops I thought I was supposed to take 1 drop. Infact it was 25 drops. I became very depressed and anxious over the four days I took 1 drop ! When I 1st phoned the pharmacist yesterday to verify the dosage,he 1st told me incorrectly that I should be taking 11 drops, then he changed the advise to 25 drops. It was also confusing because the literature that came with the medicine was in Spanish.

I understand your struggle. Not only did it make me ravenous but if I ignored the craving it gave me horrible anxiety and dread. I tried my best to keep healthy Snacks but it always made me crave naughty foods.

March 2019 now, time for a Seroquel/Quetiapine update, had G/BP in July 2017.
I’m still on Seroquel. How are the other bipolar sufferers managing the meds and their symptoms?
Have gone from 198lbs to 140lbs/ 14 stone to 10 stone/ 89kgs to 65 kgs.
Still on Seroquel, still eating when I’m drugged, every morning I look at the plate or bowl on my bedside table and try and work out what I ate when drugged and hungry the night before.
Hate the drug.
My BMI has come down to 25 which is normal, but I know it would be less if I didn’t eat at night after taking Seroquel.

Before surgery, I gained a lot on Seroquel and then Abilify (over 60 lbs.). I was hungry a lot. My psychiatrist switched me to Latuda, which does not affect weight at all and doesn't trigger hunger pangs. But depending upon your diagnosis, Latuda might not be right for you. Also, it's incredibly expensive and some insurance plans don't cover it or only cover about 50% of its cost ($700/mo).

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
