I had my sleeve surgery Thursday, 6/29/17. I am experiencing a sharp pain in my lower right abdomen where my large cut is. When I sit up from lying down I feel like my guts are going to fall out!!!

Hi Tobittl

The pain is very normal...my goodness according to your surgery date your not even a week out. Did they not give you any pain meds ?. Any way just make your incision is clean and one trick you might try... well two . Try rolling to what ever side your getting up from sit up sideways... don't try sitting straight up. And if you have to cough put a pillow over stomach and press gently to hold your stomach , or just to feel good.

feel better soon;)

That is probably where the surgeon inserted the largest instrument. It's the most painful, and takes the longest to heal. Roll to your side before you sit up.

Hi gailkindo

Your having gastric sleeve I don't see a date if you've had or having. I had Gastric bypass (some say it's more painful because they are rearranging my intestines.) Regardless it's surgery and there will be discomfort. I was given Oxycontin to take home with me after 2days in the hospital and I only needed it for a few days after...then extra strength tylenol did the job of keeping the pain away. Make sure you have all the info you need from your doc and Meds that will help you through the pain. I won't lie to you the only time I felt excruciating pain was when I was coming out of anesthesia but they soon took care of that.

you will be fine and I know your a big girl LOL

Good luck and remember this is the beginning of a new you :D

Laughing hard... [emoji2] Thank you Jeffrey. I love you. You have truly felt My inner fears. Enough said. I trust it. I'm actually due to see a cardiologist first week of Aug. And my last 6month visit per insurance. Then I guess a date will be given . Thank you the encouragement. [emoji95] [emoji95] [emoji95]

Your welcome gailkindo

You will do just great.. it's all so scary before than poof it's all over with and your saying to yourself what was I so afraid. Look at the number of people on this blog. We all have gone through the same thing and come out better for it. Unfortunately we were all given the short end of the stick... our weight issues. However we all have also made firm decisions to fight the challenges we have been given.

It's a new life and a new you... go forth and be healthy !:D

I had the same pain. I could not stomach my pain killers so I had to boss through it. However, this is very normal and is nothing to stress about. I know it hurts and it's very uncomfortable. I'm sure it makes it difficult to want to walk (I walked like I had a hunchback for the first week).

My suggestion is a hot compress. This does help. I placed a seat in my shower and would sit under the warm running Water to help alleviate some of the discomfort.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
