Okay so I have been seeing alot of people saying they had to have a nicotine test prior to surgery. I was a heavy smoker for years stopped due to pregnancy then I started back up about 2 months ago then stopped but this weekend ended up smoking. I'm afraid I just self sabatoged myself. My doctor doesnt know I smoke. He knew I was a smoker but I choose not to tell him because I was trying to quit yet again. I'm afraid that if they do a test he will cancel my surgery. It's on 7-17-17. So I guess my question is will it be out of my system by then? Also is that a standard test they do?

I'm in the same boat. It's not a standard test every surgeon does. I've read it takes 3-5 day for nicotine to leave system entirely.

I was 4 1/2 days completely nicotine free when I had my blood test and it came up negative. I've read it (cotinine not nicotine) stays in urine a bit longer. If you completely abstain you should be ok!
