What should be my goal weight?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what should be my goal weight? I am 30 years old and 5'6". I'm approaching my first goal of 160... what is too small I guess I should say? I am working so hard and eating super clean and feeling amazing! Thanks for any advice!

I don't really believe in setting a hard goal. For 5'6" 148lbs is considered a healthy BMI. If you want a hard goal, that would be my suggestion. Of course 5'6" and 160lbs is pretty darn good in my opinion as well. You need to listen to your body and find that weight that feels comfortable for you. You'll know it when you hit it.

I'm 5'4 and I'm currently 157lbs. I'm 3 weeks out of surgery. I was thinking I rather be at the bottom end of the bmi scale so around 120lbs.

My original goal was actually still (barely) overweight by my BMI. I'm 5'1" and started at 242. My goal was 135 pounds.

It took me 17 months to get there.

Eventually, after pregnancy, I wanted to lose the baby weight and readjusted my goal down ten pounds. I got there but it took about another 14 months after I had the baby to lose the 10 pounds from her, plus the 10 to goal.

Over the next few months, I was put on a medication that suppressed my appetite and I've dropped to 116-118 pounds. I've maintained for 2.5 years now.

I think the point is you can pick any goal you want, at any point you want. So long as it's healthy and within normal for your body, your sleeve can get you there. It doesn't expire. It takes time, effort and sometimes a little jumpstart is nice. I started my baby loss with a green smoothie cleanse. Silly, 2 smoothies during the day and Protein for dinner, but a way to get refocused for ten days. Only minimal results, but I'm a notoriously slow loser.

I'm skinny. I won't lie. But my BMI is normal. My labs are good. I eat healthy meals.

I think our hangup about "too skinny" comes from the same place as being "too fat" and formerly embracing our curves. Being told not to get too thin, or to eat a sandwich has been just as damaging as being told "I have such a pretty face" or "carry myself well for my size." To hell with that.

Be the size you want to be. Period. It's your body. You get to decide. You've come this far. And congrats on that. It might take longer to get smaller, but so what? It took me over four years to get this size. Do you think that stops me from enjoying it?

I've been wondering this too for myself. I'm 5'5.5". My first goal is 160. I haven't been that since 1999. I thought I was "fat" then. Looking at pics, I'd be super happy just to be 180. But according to BMIs, I need to be under 150. I don't want to hear people saying "you do t need to loose anymore weight" "you're so skinny" I dont tell people that who have been that since their whole lives. I wonder if people look at those that have been overweight when they loose down to a low number, that's it's hard for them to actually see that person that size?? Does that make sense? We are so use to being seen as big. So when the weight does come off, people don't associate us with being small.

Anyway, 160 is my goal. We shall see....

I've been wondering what my goal weight should be too. I think I will wait to see what looks best for me. I'm 5'7" and I'm thinking somewhere around 145. At one point (many years ago) I got down to 135 and my friends said I didn't look good. Well my surgery is on July 5th and I can't wait to have it!

I'm 5'6" and 38. I just picked 145, just cause it fits in the healthy range. But I'm fine at 160 or so. Depends also on how much you decide to put in regarding muscle. Although I'm aiming for a lower number (to get healthy), that number won't be my actual goal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
